I came for the mosaic art and was surprised to discover such a beautiful succulent garden. Everyone should visit this spot.

“There are two of them now”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 May 2014

There are two tiled stairways now; they just opened up a new one about three blocks away (I think it is around 12th & Lawton). I love the design of this one (fish at the bottom; waves and more; up to the moon). I was told that the moon reflects the sun on those rare days that the you can actually see the sun set in the Sunset.

At the top of the stairwell is Grand View Park. The views from the hill are awesome. I was surprised by the 360 degree views from the top --- including Twin Peaks and the Tower; the Golden Gate Bridge and Marin; and the Sunset, Daly City and Pacifica

PS: they are working on funding for a third stairwell; I don't know much about it, but someone working on the neighborhood garden told me they are in the initial planning stages

“Interesting mosaic tiled steps”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 May 2014

Community project. There are around 160 steps from memory, all tiled beautifully. Not much else to see as it's in a residential area and there were not too many people when I visited but it's an interesting stop.

“Community Art Project”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 May 2014

I love it that a community came together to make these tiled steps. Be sure to take the time to read the sign and enjoy the landscaping which is maintained by the neighbors. Each front face of a step is carefully tiled and includes names of those who participated. Climb to the top, jog over to the park steps above and see the total SF view. Incredible place to see a sunrise or sunset, though it's not a huge place.

“Worth it if you're in the area and like stairs”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 May 2014 via mobile

The tile work is nice and a lovely way to brighten up otherwise boring concrete stairs. It is near the top of a steep hill and requires some climbing before you get to the bottom of the stairs. It is a nice neighborhood beautification project, but I wouldn't necessarily call it an attraction. Definitely go by it if you're within a few blocks. It looks like they are going to do a similar project on a set of stairs on 15th Avenue, so if you are a frequent SF visitor, maybe wait until those are done too.
