“Yes, yes and yes!!!”

Coming from Montreal, we are spoiled with good Greek restaurants. This restaurant gives MTL restaurants a run for their money. When it comes to Greek food I am very picky and I must say this restaurant is excellent!!! A true gem and I could understand how it's rated #1 on trip advisor.

I sat at the bar and ordered lamb chops. They were amazing. The bartenders where super cool....one of my favourite restaurants in the US. If you are in San Fran, it's a must...

The restaurant is extremely busy make sure you have reservations....

“Unbeatable”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 August 2014

The greek food is by definition Mediterranean Food, that by definition is rich in flavors derived from the spices used. The restaurant is very nice in one f the nicest neighborhoods in San Francisco for dining. The setting is nice and elegant. The liquors list has a lot of options in wines in bottles, half bottles and by the glass as well in digestiffs running from Baileys, Grappas, brandies or Chartreuse. In my two visits I always got the reservation respected and ready. The staff was very polite and knowledgeable about the menu and ready to advice the customers. This the kind of restaurant where everything was of high quality from the starters to the desserts. Try the starters with feta cheese (specially the baked feta, the watermelon or the asparagus) or the lentil soup. In the main courses I highly recommend the ravioli, the chicken souvlaki or the grilled lamb chops. The baklava as desserts is the best. I have a recently converted vegetarian daughter who had a lot of options in the menu and loved the place after we dinned there.
The prices are high, but here you really get what you pay.
We used the Open Table online reservation service with very good results.
One advice: We were aware that restaurant has not explicit dress code but went there acceptable dressed for the best restaurant in SF; the clientele is mainly business people, diplomats and high standing residents, so if you are a tourist in the summertime better to not go in slippers, a smart casual one is enough. The will not reject you for the attire but for better not look like a bull in a china shop.

“All hype.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 August 2014

This was our first trip to San Francisco and a celebration of our 25th wedding anniversary. We were so excited to get a reservation at the #1 Tripadvisor rated restaurant in the city. HUGE disappointment. Even after calling to confirm our reservation, we waited 35 minutes to be seated. No apologies. The hostess seemed overwhelmed and cranky. The gentleman who eventually took us to our table was no better. No smile. No gracious, "Thank you for waiting." Nothing. Our server was the only person in the place who seemed at all friendly. Even with this poor start, the evening could have been turned around if the food had been amazing. Didn't happen. The food was mediocre. By far, the most disappointing meal of our ten day trip. This place is not prepared to handle all the business that was generated by their high Tripadvisor rating. They are packing customers in, but the quality of the experience no longer deserves the high status. Seriously, not impressed.

“Great Greek Gustation in SF!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 August 2014

Our final night in San Francisco finished with a flourish at the very well-recommended Greek restaurant Kokkari Estiatorio. Despite the heavy reservations we managed a booking at 9.30pm on a Wednesday night, and the staff were happy to accommodate when we arrived slightly early. Our meal consisted of dolmathes and calamari as appetisers, the lamb rotisserie and moussaka as mains and a shared baklava for dessert, and we are pleased to report that both the wine and traditional Greek food were delicious (although the meat portions were perhaps rather large for our modest appetites) and speedily served, especially given the large number of patrons this restaurant attracts! The staff were professional and the ambiance upbeat, making for a very enjoyable evening at Kokkari Estiatorio!

“Very popular and very good.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 August 2014

I was surprised by this elegant Greek restaurant. I had never experienced this level of fine Greek food. It was sumptuous. The restaurant was elegant and the service - first class. The only drawback was that it was very difficult to secure a reservation on a weekend despite the restaurant being quite large. Don't get me wrong, you never feel as though you are in a large space.
