Hog Island is in the Ferry Building. This place was recommended by someone born and raised in San Francisco, and we loved it. and the oysters were fantastic. There are several choices, most from the West Coast. They happily supplied us with seafood sauce and horseradish for them, and the horseradish was freshly shredded - which was wonderful! They had a Peruvian ceviche with halibut that was also spectacular. The wine list was good, and there are tons of options for food - but we mainly focused on oysters. Plan on waiting as this place gets packed. There is outdoor seating, but if the weather is nice it will take a long time to get a table. Beware the parking is a nightmare, so cab it if you can. I will absolutely go back when I am in San Fran.

I didn't intend to eat here but seeing the bustle and atmosphere thought it worth a try. It was busy even at just before 6pm and you should be prepared to queue and also to wait for your food. It is far from being a tourist trap - most diners were locals, a few having pre-dinner oysters. Definitely a must do for oyster lovers - big range of freshly caught and prepared a variety of ways. The rest of the menu nicely done though - I had clams with tomato and sausage, sea bass crudo, fries, all of which nicely done. The specials and many of the dishes are fairly small so if not just there for the oysters you need to order a few each - barely more than tapas. Nice selection of wines by the glass, friendly service but kitchen stretched so you need to plan it as a leisurely trip and enjoy the view and atmosphere. Family style or bar seating.

We stopped in for some Hog island Oysters and found a nice spot at the bar. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. They also do some awesome mixed cocktails.

The oysters were pretty good, but certainly not my favourite. This is of course a very personal taste thing, and I do have friends who thought they were the best oysters they ever had.

Our recommend: You should definitely stop by and try their oysters and cocktails!

We were in SF for our first time. Live in Deep South AL. As we were enjoying the Ferry Building we decided to find a place to eat. We walked up and down the place checking out food establishments. Hog Island looked fun and people were happy and enjoying. We had no idea what to order. Decided on Clam Chowder and Grilled Cheese. OMG! Wow! Amazing. We are still talking about it. Highly recommend. We sat outside and enjoyed the view. Very nice!

Fresh, flavorful clams in their shell with just a hint of garlic and herb. It's amazing.

Don't be put off by the idea that Hog Island is on the Wharf, the tourists and locals come here for a reason.
