“Good food, great view!”
Reviewed 31 July 2014

I'll start up by saying I'm not an Oyster fan. So, one may ask, why stop at an Oyster place??!! Good question! However, it was undeniably the view, and the atmosphere of having seafood by the waterfront.

Even though I've never liked Oysters, the staff convinced me to try some, which I did. Unfortuantely, I confirmed my dislike for them....nothing sayting anything bad at all, I think they were probably very good, just not my "thing". However, I did also order their clam chowder...what a unique take on clam chowder!! The broth was cream-based, with scallions and bacon in them. However, the clams were still in the shell in the broth, which was a great take on them...can get fresher clams in your chowder than that way! The chowder was simply delicious. (and there were a lot of clams in there, to boot....).

Hog Island also had a very good tap-beer and wine selection to go with their food.

The staff was very friendly and super helpful with my quest through the menu. The place was also popular, with a wait even at 8:00 on a Sunday evening.

All in all, a good place...I'm thinking great if you actually like oysters! I still wouldn't mind returning to try some more of their menu items...and having more of their chowder!!

“amazing view is the draw”
Reviewed 30 July 2014

We are from Maryland--so we know about good oysters. They oysters here were not as good as we are used to and they were much much smaller. This restaurant is very popular--a long wait--but the view and the atmosphere were so good that it was a good experience over-all.

“Felt like a HOG”
Reviewed 30 July 2014 via mobile

Stopped in for pre lunch snack being oyster lovers before embarking on the Ferry to Sausalito. Place was packed, of course it is, the views are spectacular of the bridge and Alcatraz. We choose the variety dozen and another dozen of our favorites along with a glass of Saviougon Blanc. They were so fresh and the taste from the different regions of the country real came through. Oyster lover heaven!!

“Very good”

They grow their own oysters. It's pricey for casual dinning but its a reflection of the quality of food.
