“Great owners, staff and food”
Reviewed 28 February 2013

Do you like Thai food and want a great value then go no further. I worked in SF for a year and a half in 2008 and I made this place my home away from home. I missed them so much I went back to visit last year.

“A charming restaurant great location and wonderful host”
Reviewed 13 September 2012

Cha Am at 701 Folsom St. corner of 3rd street is located across the street from the Moscone Center, 2 blocks from SF Museum of Modern Art and Mission Street and 3 blocks from Market St/ Downtown San Francisco. There are probably 50 or more Thai restaurants in San Francisco and this is one of the better ones. The restaurant has a beautiful decor a nice small full bar, a big screen TV . The food is excellent very tasty, lots of choices and Judy is an excellent host. The prices are competitive and there is free parking with validation, a precious extra in downtown San Francisco. Stop by for lunch and of course dinner while you go see the museums that are close by or perhaps you are shopping on Market Street or at the Metreon complex or attending a convention at the Moscone Center. This is a great Thai Restaurant and I highly endorse it.

“Thai food downtown San Francisco.”
Reviewed 23 October 2011

My wife and I decided to try Cha-am Thai restaurant in the San Francisco downtown area across the street from the backside of Moscone convention center. It is right across the street from the very popular OSHA Thai restaurant, one of several in the OSHA local chain.

It is Saturday night and the restaurant is fairly quiet. Not a good sign, but it is crowded across the street at OSHA Thai restaurant and we are in a rush. So we decided to try Cha Am.

The atmosphere has good mood lighting and tables, chairs, but there are various decor pieces that don't fit in the Asian theme.

I ordered the boneless half of a duck ($15) that was tasty with a great sauce. The duck was a small bird and it was served over a generous portion of mixed fresh veggies like, cabbage, squash, carrots, broccoli, peas in a pod.

We also tried the shrimp salad ($9) which was mainly shrimp in a spicy, tasty sauce with little bit of lettuce. The amount of lettuce was more of a garnishment then a true salad.

Service needs improvement. Waitress merely took the order and delivered it to the table with little interaction. This is where the competition across the street at OSHA really shines.

Overall, not bad, menu is moderate in selection and fair prices, but there could be much improvement.

“Entree portions vary”
Reviewed 6 October 2011

Ordered the Sa-Tay (grilled marinated chicken breast) only two thin skewered pieces of meat. Ordered off the "tonights special" board, shrimp, scallops entree big on flavors, portion "where's the rest of the dinner?"
