Jesus. I've never seen so many people lining and waiting for almost an hour for pastries. You smell the cream and sugar when you walk close to the bakery. Their most popular pastry is frangipane croissant. Its almond flakes and almond cream gives it a moist and crispy texture, very very unique.
They do have bread (most popular is country) after 11am, although that's not what most people come for. Tartine has sourdough books published and are seen as advanced baking bibles in the baking industry.

Tartine is heaven on Earth. They have nailed everything absolutely perfectly. Tartine has a wide selection of artesian sandwiches and baked goods, ranging from local Humbolt Fog cheese on their mind blowingly good bread to their world famous rochers and coconut macaroons. Yes, you heard that right WORLD FAMOUS. Everything is vibrant with flavor and texture and you cannot go wrong with Tartine Bakery. If you are visiting the beautiful city of San Francisco this place is a must go. This place is as much of a "must go" as the Golden Gate Bridge.

P.S. (Lines varying in 10-45 minutes tend to form, but don't get me wrong, I promise you it is way way worth the wait)

We had the best breakfast in San Francisco here. Great coffee, pastries and their brioche bread pudding is a great way to start the day. Busy busy busy, a short queue waiting outside but it clears quickly. Just a cool spot to hang out. Thanks.

This was the last thing we ate before we headed to the airport to catch our flight home.. And thankfully, we ended our trip with Tartine's Bakery. My friends, this was the absolute BEST croissant sandwich I've had in my life!!! The croissant was perfectly flaky and delicate, yet it wasn't too buttery, as croissants usually are.. And their bread was so delicious. I highly recommend to anyone making a trip to San Francisco that they go to Tartine's. You have to. It's 100% worth it.

The bread and paste ties are really worth the long line. No other bread compares to Tartine! They don't use anything that isn't pure and local. Even the yeast that m Jed the bread rise is just from the beginning air.
