We had asked the concierge at the hotel for a local Indian food restaurant. He recommended Chutney on the edge of The Tenderloin district. We went right before 7 PM and had no problem getting a seat. The food was delicious. We had an order of lamb curry and a vegetarian curry. Both dishes were superb and not too spicy but just spicy enough. The atmosphere is very casual and eclectic. As long as you are looking for authentic food and not a quiet, romantic place, this restaurant is a hit! The prices are very reasonable. The rice pudding was heavenly.

Some of the best food in sfo, price very reasonable. Basic service, yet food makes up for everything. The curry was excellent with fresh nann bread

This has become our favorite Indian restaurant to go to in the city. We ordered a bunch of food and it was very reasonably priced. Loved their tandoori chicken and lamb kabobs as well as chicken tikka masala. Plus you can drink some Indian tea for free while you are having your meal. Restaurant itself is nothing to brag about but it does the job as far as good food is considered.

This is my first experience with Indian food, so I don't have anything to compare it to. However, many people recommended Chutney, so we tried it. I feel in LOVE with Indian food after eating here. The restaurant itself is nothing to brag about-very plain and borderline dirty. When you enter the restaurant, you wait in line to order, get your number and wait for the food. After you eat, you wait in line again to pay. Strange idea, but whatever.

The prices were so reasonable that we sampled several dishes.
Lamb curry- great flavor and not too spicy. Tandoori chicken breast- a little dry, but I would order it again. Chicken Boti- delicious. Chicken Tikka Masala- we couldn't get enough of the masala. By far the best thing we ordered. I will go back just to get the chicken masala again! Order plenty of Naan and a side of rice. My ONLY complaint is the location. Lots of homeless people lingering. Don't let the cons keep you from coming. It was well worth it!
