What I would term a "hole in the wall". I don't mean that disparagingly at all. You go there for the food, not the ambiance. It's in a lousy neighborhood (So what else is new? It's San Francisco) a little above the Tenderloin. Have been here multiple times and food has been consistent. I find the food very tasty and somewhat on the spicy side. Try the dal masala.

We where walking to another restaurant recommended on TA when the smell coming from this place stopped us in our tracks. Very friendly waiter explained that we ordered at the counter and paid at the end. No wine or beer but he told us we where free to buy from the Market across the road and have it with our meal. We had tikka masala, korma, tandori chicken, rice, a dalhl, 2 x naan bread and a side of Raiti. Everything was exceptional. So tasty and fresh and as it's an open kitchen you watch them cook everything. The total with tax was $36. Amazing really. Really gracious, friendly and warm host topped off this great eating experience.

Nothing special about this place. Average rating on Trip Advisor is 4 stars out of 5. No way. The food is okay, but not spicy at all. Lots of bone in my Lamb Vindaloo. Place is packed and the staff is hustling. They get credit for that. But it's loud. Table was wobbly. Underwhelmed. I will be gracious and give them a 3. Total was $15.50 with tip.

This was recommended by several SF locals. Service very friendly, meals ordered and delivered to our table quickly. Meals paid for after dining and free chai also available. Great walking location to our hotel, highly recommended. You know its good when Indian people are dining at an Indian Restaurant :)

We had asked the concierge at the hotel for a local Indian food restaurant. He recommended Chutney on the edge of The Tenderloin district. We went right before 7 PM and had no problem getting a seat. The food was delicious. We had an order of lamb curry and a vegetarian curry. Both dishes were superb and not too spicy but just spicy enough. The atmosphere is very casual and eclectic. As long as you are looking for authentic food and not a quiet, romantic place, this restaurant is a hit! The prices are very reasonable. The rice pudding was heavenly.
