“Not the old Clementine I once knew”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 January 2014 via mobile

Clementine changed ownerships about 8 or 9 years ago. A couple that owned a small restauarent in the Sunset bought it. They've turned Clementine into that small restaurant style, same uneven menu, understaffed (barman has no support, he serves for entire restaurant, stocks and washes and waits all the counter seats' meals) - no one gets adequate service. Clementine once was known for impeccable service, creative menue with a section with dishes for loyalists that come back for just those, and a decent and reasonable wine list. This isn't that Clementine. She's gone.

“Love Ellen and Phillippe and their restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 April 2013

Have been going there since they first opened as Chapeau! on California Street. On our last visit I had the most refined and delicious bouillabaise which included a grilled fennel slice which added the perfect fennel flavor in a subtle manner. Phillipe is a charming chef, greeting you with peck peck on the cheek. Ellen his wife runs the front and she always remembers us, recommends excellent wines (often not on the menu yet), gives us little extras as regular customers like an extra dessert or appetizer taste in addition to the usual amuse bouche they send out after you order. The food is stellar and they finally earned their well deserved top 100 restaurants from the SF Chronicle. We just LOVE Chapeau!/Clementine as either a last minute choice at the bar or special occasion. A terrific neighborhood French restaurant with an inspired chef owner.

“Brought us back to our honeymoon in France!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 October 2011

After a long day on a bus tour of Muir Woods and Sonoma Wine Country we returned to our hotel in the Inner Richmond District very tired and not wanting to get on a bus back downtown. My husband had spotted the Clementine Bistro so we walked over and were so pleasantly surprised! The food was very authentic bistro style. The ambiance was fun and inviting and our service was great. We started with the sweetbreads, I had the cassoulet which was outstanding and my husband had the skate which he also enjoyed very much. The prices were reasonable for the quality of the food and the wine list affordable also. I highly recommend!
