“Splurge on the omakase dinner”
Reviewed 1 January 2014

We had the omakase dinner and loved every bite. Each course was representative of the various styles of Japanese cuisine and you can tell each dish was carefully prepared and presented. I enjoyed watching the the chef prepare some of the dishes at the counter, especially when he pulled out the wasabi stalk and prepared the fresh wasabi for the sashimi dish. Fresh wasabi is super expensive so make sure you eat every bite!

“Agree with all 6 of the previous reviews - wonderful experience!”
Reviewed 9 September 2013

If you are looking for an authentic, Japanese meal, look no further! Kappa is hard to find, but a delight in a small setting. Personable owners (wife wears a kimono and serves, husband is the chef); beautiful and delicious food - a very memorable experience if you like Japanese food, (and I don't mean sushi boats or combo platters).

“On another level entirely”
Reviewed 23 May 2013

A 'must try' for anyone passionate about authentic Japanese cuisine, specifically the Koryori style. This is a tiny establishment (8 seats) with a limited opening. Like most guests, we opted for the seven course omakase (chef's menu) at $85/ea. Each dish was a work of art: extremely refined and expertly prepared and presented. All ingredients were of superb quality. The kimono-clad hostess (and wife of the chef) was graceful and very welcoming. Although busy, she patiently answered our many questions about the food and even the place settings, which included tiny matts made of horse hair. The sakes were excellent too. Highly recommended for those seeking an authentic Japanese eating experience. A place to contemplate the palate, not chow down.

“True Japanese dining experience”
Reviewed 14 November 2011

Kappa is not your typical Japanese restaurant. What makes it special is that it focuses on omakase, which means diners let the chef decide what he thinks is best in terms of the food that he would like to serve you that night. This is an excellent dining experience for people who are serious about Japanese food. Sometimes people only associate Japanese food with fancy rolls and tons of (unnecessary) dressing that is not representative of real Japanese food. Therefore, Kappa is a breath of fresh air that gives us a glimpse into real and authentic Japanese food.

Kappa is run by a husband-and-wife team. The husband is the chef and the wife helps out in serving. All the food is prepared by the husband so you will know that everything is handled with care, as they don't hire anyone else to help out at the restaurant. The restaurant seats no more than 10 people so be sure to make a reservation.

We had excellent food such as sea urchin and whitefish in clear soup, seared tuna, scallops, etc. Each item allowed us to savor and appreciate the main ingredient used for the course. I also had the best mochi dessert at Kappa. My husband loved the green tea cheesecake and he doesn't even like desserts usually.
