“great food and service”
Reviewed 31 July 2014 via mobile

we were looking for a good italian restaurant near our hotel at fisherman's wharf. Albona filled the bill.
we got much more than convenience. the owner/chef seated us, elegantly explained the menu to us and offered suggestions for a wine choice to compliment our meal.
the food was excellent, the portions more than adequate. we started by having a very interesting appetizer, braised sauerkraut and sausage. i highly recommend it. it was different and extremely tasty, not something you would expect to have on a menu.
My wife had the lemon chicken and i had one of the specials of the night, the fresh alaskan halibut. both excellent to say the least.
we ended the evening with homemade desserts, one of the best tiramisu's i have ever had.
i highly recommend the restaurant to anyone going to SF.

“Great Food and Friendly Service”
Reviewed 28 July 2014 via mobile

My family and I had dinner here on a busy Saturday night. We arrived late, tired and hungry, (After the Alcatraz night tour) and the manager recommendations were great and service was super friendly and relatively fast. We had various pasta, lamb, veal and risotto dishes, plus a great California Pinot Noir.

If you are in Fisherman's Wharf area and want a really good meal away from the tourist traps, Albona is highly recommended ( about 6 blocks inland from Pier 41)

“Excellent Italian”
Reviewed 28 July 2014 via mobile

Great food and great hospitality. Sammy, the owner, worked the front of the house while his wife ran the kitchen. Everything was superb. I had the mushroom risotto which was out of this world. Highly recommend it.

“Old fashioned restaurant with excellent food and equally good service”
Reviewed 24 July 2014

The best Mushroom Risotto we have ever had. Mushroom soup was fabulous as well. The two fish dishes, Halibut and Salmon were excellent. Warm bread and soft butter. Tiramisu for dessert. It was an excellent dinner. Yes we will go back soon. Service was not only friendly but efficient and professional. Nothing to complain about. Came out with a big smile on our faces.

“Excellent Jugoslav/Italian”
Reviewed 14 July 2014

Albona features cooking from the peninsula where Croatia, Slovenia, and Italy meet. Because this area was part of Italy until the World Wars, the dishes have a Northern Italian bent.
One of the few places that serves sardines as an appetizer. They are great, but you will taste nothing else for the next few hours. The risotto is extra creamy and delicious. Both veal shank and lamb chops were among the best anywhere. The wine list is adequate with a few European specialties at reasonable prices.
Servings are big so you may not have room for dessert.
Casual, seats about 35, helpful staff.
