This hotel had a lot of character and history. The rooms were decent and clean. It's an older hotel, so it has interesting set ups in the rooms, elevators are smaller and very cute. Don't expect super fancy.

The price was amazing and it comes with breakfast in the mornings which include eggs, scones, toast, jellies, muffins, juice, coffee, oatmeal...etc.

We had some really great food just two blocks away and went out at night along Polk Street which was a short stroll from the hotel as well. Just don't wander too far south west of the hotel and you should be fine.

I would definitely come back to this hotel again.

Room Tip: Request a room on the quiet side of the hotel. We had no problem with noise on the quiet side.

The hotel was very nice, we had a room on floor six which had a mini kitchenette - we found this handy for keeping drinks cold. The bathroom was clean and again absolutely no complaints there. Breakfast was included in the price but this was a fairly basic set up mainly coffee, tea and juice, fruit, porridge, bread for toast, biscuits, scones and cakes. It would have been nice to have a choice of cereal, pastries and yoghurt as well - food for thought!

Upon arrival to the hotel I was hoping we would have able to use the parking the hotel has to offer but unfortunately they said our car was too big - we were pointed in the direction of a nearby car park but I have to say this was difficult to find as we found ourselves going up and down roads which took us away from where we were trying to get to. Try and do your homework where parking is concerned as it can be very expensive.

We were in walking distance to all main areas in San Fran and would recommend this hotel.

It's not the Ritz but it is a centrally located, functional hotel that offers spacious, clean and well appointed rooms. The beds were comfortable, the lighting/ tv/ lift/ bathroom were all good. Rooms were quiet and you got a good sleep- although without air con it could get hot ( fans in rooms however).
Do plan how you will get to the hotel. There are a lot of homeless people/ druggies and if you are not careful you can unknowingly steay into the dodgy Tenderloin area- somewhere it is reportedly not safe to go at night- and where we ended up on the outskirts of when we walked from Powell Station (Union Square). We survived unscathed. It is probably worth taking a cab with luggage if you arrive after dark as the streets are also quite steep.
Breakfast was varied (toast/ biscuits/ flapjack/ muffins/ oatmeal/ apples/ juice/ cheese/ coffee/ jam etc) and much better than expected.
Staff were super friendly and informative, highly recommend.
Restaurants, Alamo/ National car rental and a shop close by.

A charming little hotel, centrally located to streetcar lines and buses. You can get an unlimited 7 day pass for $27 which I would highly recommend. Cannot find a better hotel value, our double room was $99 which included kitchenette with utensils including wine glasses, 2 walk in closets, bathroom amenities. Price also included breakfast. There were so many choices I don't know what all the complaints are about. I guess those guests expected an omelette station? Seriously... There was a variety of breads, fresh baked cookies, scones, muffins. Butter, peanut butter, nutella, hard boiled eggs, variety of oatmeal and cold cereals, oj, coffee, tea, hot chocolate. I'm sure I'm missing something but I'm lucky if I was offered dry toast and coffee in any european pensione. The lobby area was lovely, the 2nd floor balcony included sitting area, 3 computers with free internet access and a printer. Rooms also had free wifi. All the staff were truly charming and helpful. Our stay at the Mayflower far exceeded any expectations we had.

when arrived at first glance the hotel looked old and not very attractive. we thought that we made a bad choice coming in but we turned out completely wrong! the room was big and clean, kitchen and bathroom were well acquipped and above all the staff was extremely kind and helpful.

the only downside was the location which actually considered good since it is pretty close to union square but in my opinion san fransisco has better areas to offer.
if you do like the union square area and not looking for a fancy 5 star hotel - this is definately the place for you!
