“Good value, location, and service”
Reviewed 9 November 2012

I stayed here during a business trip and felt it was a very good value for the location. The staff treated us very well, were always cheerful and friendly. The location was pretty good. I could walk to China town, to a great Italian restaurant on Nob Hill (about 4 blks - uphill to get there, downhill coming back), and the cable car had a stop not too far away either. Good pizza place across the street as well! It was difficult to catch a taxi in the morning, though! It was unseasonably warm when I was there and the rooms do not have air conditioning - so they were stuffy. Opened windows at night to get a breeze and then listened to city noise - but it was not awful (we were not on the street side). Rooms were comfortable, a bit dated, fairly roomy. Towels seemed very new and were soft - not hard and think like many older hotels. The pillows could use some updating to be a little more comfy! Hotel had a very European feel to it - loved that about it. Breakfast was nothing fantastic, but it was free and I'm not a big breakfast eater. We rented a car for one overnight and they aren't kidding, it is extremely narrow to get in the parking garage. It's free - but definitely only bring a small car! We were told our car was economy size - but I think it really was mid-size and we had to inch it in with the mirrors tucked in. It was stressful and tricky getting it in and out of there. But, it was free. Overall - had an enjoyable stay and the price was fantastic.

This hotel may look old and worn-out, but I think they are using this on their advantage. There are a few hotels in SF are that offers free parking. This gem is one of them. Free parking saves you time and money...more money to spend on souvenirs.
They still have the semi-manual accordion-type elevator which gives you a feel of time travel. The rooms make you feel like you're a guest in a friend's house an not really a tourist. I hope this hotel would not go mainstream and maintain their clientle. And one more thing...FREE Breakfast.

Room Tip: If you plan to avail the free parking be sure to call in advance. Free parking is for small vehicles...

We broke our journey from Toronto to back to Sydney with a two night stay at this hotel and are glad we did. The Mayflower is an old hotel, partly renovated but still retaining old world charm. The reception area is quaint and cosy with big, comfy sofas. On the next level there is a seating area with computers and books for the use of guests. Staff are friendly and helpful. A continental breakfast is included in the price, there is a small supermarket next door and a good choice of restaurants close by. The location is very good, it's in the lower Nobb Hill area and is close to the shopping areas of Powell Street and Union Square. Transport links to San Francisco's attractions and the airport are within walking distance. Our room was clean, nicely furnished and comfortable. The kitchenette area needed updating but included a fridge and a microwave and some cups, plates etc. No frills here but great value.

We stayed here for 2 nights on our vacation. It was a charming gem! We were so pleased with the price that included a decent breakfast AND free parking! The rooms were clean and had a small kitchen area with a frige and a microwave. There was no air conditioning, but in October, we did not need it! We opened our windows. It was a nice breeze and not noisy. I would stay here again!

Booked this hotel (18 to 22 October 2012) based on past reviews. And I was not dissappointed. The location is fantastic and close to the famous Union Square, busy Powell/Market streets and public transport is close by for one to explore the city. We booked a standard room and although it is the most basic of all the rooms, we were very comfortable. Bed was good with clean sheets and the bathroom had all the toiletries needed to freshen up. There were no coffee/tea in the room and I recommend that these should be provided to add to guests comfort. Breakfast selection was good. And the reception staff was polite , friendly and helpful.

My family and friends got 3 rooms in this hotel for the weekend (October 13 2012). The parking was very handy and free, and a tight fit, but the desk clerk measured our car, and guided it in for us. Very helpful. We left the car and explored San Francisco on foot and by public transport. Much easier!

The rooms were comfortable, my sister's bed was a little lumpy she said, but everyone else's was fine. It is very handy to have some coffee and toast or cereal before going out sightseeing for the day, and this is included with the price of your room, in the common dining room until 10ish.

The hotel lobby and mezzanine are lovely, carved woods, leather and chandeliers. The elevators are the old style cage closure type. very quaint. They try to keep to the 1912 building decor.

There are 2 computers available with internet for free on the mezzanine. A printer is attached to these as well.

We were on the 4th and 5th floors, and noise from the street was not a problem, as long as we kept the windows shut at night. Our 2 bed room was $125 a night.

The hotel is so close to Union square and transport connections to the rest of San Francisco. There is a decent sushi place just across the street, and a market/deli just next door.

This is not a luxury hotel, but it is comfortable, clean and charming with lots of character and the staff are very helpful and friendly, even at 5 in the morning.

I had read many reviews about this hotel and was some what worried...BUT, the people that complained must be use to staying at Four Season hotels or something because this hotel was fantastic!!! Yes its an older building, but it has character! The rooms was very spacious with kitchen and everything! The sheets on the bed and bathroom was SUPER clean! We were able to keep our car in the parking garage below the hotel (Don't drive around looking for it because you have to tell the employee when you check in and than they open it up for you). This hotel has LOCATION, LOCATION, and LOCATION!!!! Only a few blocks from China Town, Union Square, and trolly to take it down to Pier 39! The breakfeast in the morning is fantastic as well. Good coffee and hard boiled eggs and toast etc. The only bad constructive criticism is the Wifi in our room...could not get it because we were in the corner on the 1st floor. Other than that GREAT HOTEL and great price for San Francisco! BIG KUDOS Hotel Mayflower!!!!

Room Tip: Side room was great! Very quiet!
