Making a SF vacation affordable is a challenge and the Mayflower really helped us out. Great rate comfortable and clean rooms and a Dash Hammett feel to boot! A delicious continental breakfast is included as is parking (for small cars---don't attempt to shoehorn anything larger than a Jetta in the hotel parking lot and survive unscathed) These sorts of extras could easily add $90-$100 to your stay at the nationally branded hotels.

Our room in the rear of the building was actually quiet---a rarity in SF---I would expect rooms in the front of the building would be noisier. The beds were a bit on the short side for my very tall teens but workable.
If your idea of a SF trip is ultra modern luxury, pools with cabana boys and lobby bars look elsewhere but if you want a comfortable room in a great location where you can set off on foot and experience San Francisco without maxing out the plastic, this is a great place to stay!

Room Tip: Rooms in the back are pretty quiet. If you have a large vehicle plan on paying for parking at a gar...

The hotel is not bad, a little old and could definitely use an update. The room was clean and the maid came by every day. The bed was a little too hard for me and the baseboard heat did not have a proper control. It was either on or off. There is a limited amount of free parking on-site. Make sure you have a VERY small car. You have to go down an entry that is only 75 inches wide and anything bigger than a Hyandai Sonata won't fit. We used it once and then paid the extra for a parking garage. It was a little too nerve-wracking for me. The free breakfast is ok, if a little limited. Having a fridge and microwave in the room helps.

We stayed 2 nights at the Hotel Mayflower for our first visit to SF. Our two little girls (ages 3 and 5) had a lot of fun playing in the room and big closet. I felt the room was very clean so no worries about playing on the floor. Only concern for me was the windows were low and there was not a safety feature when the windows were open (which we needed because the room smelled a bit like fresh paint). But with wooden shutters, we could keep the windows open but safe especially next to the bed. The staff/owners were very sweet and friendly especially to the kids. Breakfast was simple and although they had a GF option, we were glad we brought our own food. Also, bring your own hairdryer so you don't have to go down to the front desk every morning. The location was excellent, only 2 blocks to the California St and Powell St Cable Cars, walking distance to Trader Joes and a quick Cable Car ride to Whole Foods.

Room Tip: We chose the Deluxe room because it had a view, which was great for our first visit to SF and gettin...

My daughter and I stayed at the Mayflower for 5 nights. The staff is very helpful and friendly but the hotel itself could use a few updates. The breakfast is over by 9 AM ( door closed--no entry) and there's no coffee maker in the room. A guide for the TV would have helped and the bathroom door did not stay closed.
But,it is in a great location and the Mayflower Market next door was great for a few groceries and wine.

Room Tip: We were on the 3rd floor and never heard any street noise. It was cool when we were visiting but I d...

The hotel was clean enough and in a good location. That's about all that is good that can be said. We had a small car (Prius), and badly scraped the fender coming out of the garage. The entrance/exit ramp is far too narrow, even for a compact car. The TV in our room did not work, and despite several calls to the front desk, nothing was done. The answer we got was "I don't know what is wrong" and "I don't know how to fix it". No attempt was made by the management to address the problem. The breakfast was abysmal, although the cable TV was workng fine i the breakfast room.

It will cost me more to fix my car, than I saved by booking this relatively cheap hotel.

In short...don't bother.

We had a wonderful stay at the Mayflower. If you look for a Hotel with a unique charm and can accept some dated details (it is an OLD building), then you are at the right place. The location is perfect. You find yourself withing walking distance to the cable car and the downtown shopping area as well as many restaurants and bars.

My only issue was that there was no coffee maker in the room. I am somebody who's first action in the morning is drinking a cup of coffee. BUT there was an easy solution to that. As there was a microwave in the room I bought a small glass of instant coffee and a small carton of milk right next door in a nice little market. And voilà!

We stayed here based on the favourable reviews here on trip advisor. There are some positives for the hotel: it's in a great location and cheap. But for me, that is all. The room was pretty dated with a small and uncomfortable bed. The room was facing the street and was incredibly noisy due to the single glazing. The breakfast is very poor, and it's a scrummage to even get a share of the basic spread. If you're after something cheap and in a good location this could work, but don't expect much more.
