We stayed three nights at the Mayflower while in SF for a wedding. Overall, we were extremely happy with the hotel. The location is fantastic, the price is reasonable, and our room was clean and comfortable. As an added plus, the rest of the building is beautifully preserved -- sitting in their lobby, one really feels transported to the early 20th century.

If there are any downsides, I suppose they would be that the rooms are small and a little quirky (ours had a bathroom mirror at a 90 degree angle from the sink, which made shaving awkward). Also, there is no gym and the staff, while friendly enough, is not about to perform concierge-type duties. Basically, this is not a luxury hotel -- but they really aren't claiming to be, so I don't see that as a problem.

Room Tip: Room 405 is nice, but the bathroom is laid out awkwardly.

My gf and I had a VERY enjoyable stay at the Mayflower this past week. No, NOT the Ritz Carlton, but if you prefer a hotel with a little character, this immaculate 90 yr old gem can't be beat. Location IMHO is great, with a Trader Joes almost next store, and numerous good eateries. A couple of our faves included MyMy and Brenda's Soulfood for breakfast. And if you're too tired to climb the hill to Chinatown , City Chopsticks makes really decent fare at unbeatable prices.

Room Tip: Upper floors 5-6 to the rear are both a bit quieter and have a view

As my title suggests this is a nice and clean hotel that is located fairly centrally. It is on the edge of a not so desirable neighborhood, but we only saw that when we initially walked to our hotel. The hotel staff were lovely and gave us great advice. The street that the hotel is on has some lovely cafes and is very pleasant. Overall, a nice spacious room and a pretty good location.

I stayed here with my family for 6 nights this past June. The room was very clean and spacious. It is just down the street from the cable cars and very centrally located. The staff was very nice and always very helpful with directions. There is a laundromat very close by which we needed on our extended trip. They gave some very good recommendations for dinner also. They had a large assortment for breakfast but my only complaint is I just wished there were more protein choices at breakfast. They had more of a protein selection on the Saturday that we were there and we would have liked that during the week too. The water pressure wasn't great but we ran into that problem at all of the other hotels too. Overall, I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: We were in the family room which I think was on the 6th floor (I can't remember). It was plenty...

Stayed here for 7 days place is ideally located for almost everything in the city. Only negatives are thin walls and ceilings can literally hear everything going on beside you and above you. I would definitely stay again just ask to be on higher floor!

Took the Super Shuttle from the airport to the hotel, since we decided it would be better to use public transportation for the three days we would be in SF (very happy we made that choice, btw.) Was a bit nervous when we pulled up however. We had never been to SF before, so weren't quite sure that we had picked the right part of town. What we soon discovered is that the hotel is situated in a more "local" part of town as opposed to a "touristy" area.
We wandered around to find a place for lunch on day one, and close to the hotel were college-type cafes and restaurants - found a great place to have brunch and meet some locals. There are markets, cafes and restaurants right on Bush St., and getting to all the tourist attractions was so very easy - a few blocks of walking to busses or cable cars.
Rooms are clean, comfortable and well appointed. Beautiful murals in the hallways, rooms and breakfast room.
Kitchen area provided everything we needed. We ate in North Beach on our first night, and were able to bring home leftovers which we ate on night two in our hotel room.
If you aren't happy with something from the breakfast offerings, I don't know what you eat for breakfast! Hot and cold cereals, fresh fruit, yogurt, ham, cheese, a variety of breads and rolls, bagels... there was probably more that I just can't remember.
Beds were comfortable, windows opened for fresh air, and bathrooms were clean and well stocked with the expected toiletries.
We would definitely stay here again, and highly recommend it!

Room Tip: We stayed on the sixth floor and asked for a room on the quiet side - we faced the building next doo...

Wasn't sure what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. Clean and spacious rooms. Walking distance to shopping and bus lines to get around the city. Only negative is free parking lot fits smaller cars and there are no deals for nearby parking which is very pricey at 40. Overall, would stay again and recommend it.
