“A place to feel at home”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 October 2009

We stayed at the Parsonage in early September, right at the end of a 3 weeks round trip which led us down from Denver, Co to San Francisco. It was our 3rd time in the Bay City, but our first stay at the Parsonage, and we are really happy that we have found this place! And we fully agree to the vast majority of comments you can find here in the TripAdvisor: it is a unique, charming place which by far outranges the San Francisco hotels we have stayed in earlier. The Parsonage is located at the corner of Haight and Laguna and within walking distance of Market Street and the Civic Center. Our room (the Luisa Tetrazinni on the 2nd floor and with a little oriel overlooking Laguna St.)), like the rest of the house, was tastefully furnished, partly with antiques. While the bathroom was smaller and with a shower only, the bedroom was quite spacious with a nice sofa (standing inside the oriel) and an extra place for all the luggage we had with us. But what really made our stay so excellent were Joan and John and their ability to make us feel at home (not to forget Pilar, their nice, black curled dog)! In the evening and coming back from our sightseeing tours, John welcomed us in the house's living room, served chilled white wine and gave his suggestions what to do in the evening, where to go and where to eat. He seems to be most familiar with all the go-to places in the Parsonage's neighbourhood and we had some great dinners at the locations he recommended. Breakfast at the Parsonage is another of its highlights: variations of homemade dishes with fruits changing on a daily basis. Breakfast is served for all guests at one single round table, a nice opportunity to meet the other guests staying at the Parsonage.
Finally, on the Saturday we had to leave, Joan brought us to the Airport in her own car, as she would have done for good friends! We really hope to be able to come back to San Francisco in the near future – and if so, we will stay at the Parsonage again! Sure!

I really enjoyed my stay at the Parsonage and can't wait for my next visit to SF so I can stay there again. Everything about my stay was perfect and the location was great for me, convenient to The Fillmore, and a nice walk or public transit trip to downtown shopping and business areas. Many wonderful restaurants and shops are just a few blocks away , it is situated in a nice neighborhood. Could not have been better! *Unless they could have cloned Pilar and given me one to bring home ;-)

We could not have asked for anything more! From the moment we walked into the parlor as Janet introduced herself we were made to feel right at home. This B&B is amazing!! The walls, ceilings, and furnishings make this place special. Everyday breakfast was a treat with a first course of fruit and second course main dish like Southwestern Eggs, French toast or sour dough waffles. There is a bus stop right by the B&B for easy access to union square. Hayes Valley offers so many places to eat as well. There never was anything lacking during our stay including a very comfortable bed and a towel rack that kept the towels warm in the bathroom. I plan on staying there again on a future visit.

The owners were away during our stay from 25 September - 30 September, but Janet is a wonderful hostess - nothing is too much to ask her!

We found the location perfect - easy to get to any type of transport and unlike the other reviewer we walked all over at night and never felt threatened in any way. Yes, there are homeless people everywhere it appears in SF, however, none around the B & B!

The B & B itself is beautiful - the pictures are not an exaggeration - everything is lovely and clean, clean, clean! The breakfasts were delicious with a variety each day. Again, Janet could not do enough to prepare and serve such luscious meals.

The ONLY downside is that the wireless internet access did not work which I believe has been an issue. This should be sorted out. We were able to hook up to another one in the area, but it was a slow connection.

We would certainly use The Parsonage again when visiting SF which we intend to do as my daughter lives in the area! Can't wait to return!

Thank you again Janet!

We stayed at the Parsonage Sept 24 - 28. The owners were away and we were hosted by Janet who took very good care of us. The home is lovely and totally authentic. Our room was large and nicely appointed. The bathroom was modern with endless supplies of hot water.

This B & B is located in a residential area at Haight and Laguna. It is clearly an upscale neighbourhood with many Victorian era character homes. However, it is typical of the big city to the extent that most of these lovely homes have their street level windows and doors barred and gated.

Since this B & B is only two blocks off of Market Street ( a main commercial street leading to Union Square and the downtown core), there is a healthy supply of sketchy people, the homeless and addicted, etc. in the immediate vicinity of the B & B. After dark, you really want to be catching a cab (if you can find one) to get where you are going.

During the day the B & B is very convenient to the F line trolley buses which will take you to the cable cars at Union Square or right around to the wharves - the farmer's market , The Embarcadero and Fisherman's Wharf. It was very easy to get around and Janet, our host, helped us with anything else we needed.

I would recommend this B & B to anyone who wants a real sense of what it would be like to live in this city - right down to the 5AM garbage trucks screeching down the street on Fridays or the yelling/laughing partyiers rolling home from the bars at 4AM Sunday morning.

You couldn't get this experience staying in a Union Square highrise hotel!

There are no radios or TV's in the rooms - to allow for a retreat type atmosphere
(I think) - but I would have liked to have had both!

We really liked it as a unique experience (but probably wouldn't do it again.)

My wife and I recently stayed at the Parsonage in San Francisco for a wedding. We prefer to stay at B+B's for more friendly service and a 'homey' experience. The Parsonage totally lived up to expectations. Anyone will tell you that a good B+B must offer at least a good bed and a good breakfast. A+ on both counts here - the beds were sumptuous and cozy; the breakfast was near-gourmet quality... it was as if they could read my mind in terms of what they served.

The only negative I will point out is the location itself. It is on Haight St., east of the Haight district I believe. Not the best neighborhood San Fran has to offer (in my limited experience). Don't get me wrong - I never really felt unsafe or anything like that. In fact, there are good neighborhood bars and restaurants nearby, so for that it's great. Just don't expect it to be located in the center of a "tourist's heaven".

Our stay at The Parsonage was remarkable. It exceeded our expectations. Not only is this magnificent Victorian home furnished with beautiful antiques and the Luisa Tetrazinni bedroom spacious with a comfortable queen-size bed, its proximity to public transportation could not have been better with bus stops for three lines a few feet from the front door and the Market Street streetcars, buses, and subway only a couple of blocks away. Our innkeepers, Joan and John, were gracious hosts who served delicious hot breakfasts with fresh fruit, coffee/tea, juice and newspaper in the morning and also offered brandy and chocolates in the evening. We enjoyed being at The Parsonage and plan to return next year.
