What a great museum, historical, educational, fun and free!!! Lots of impactful historical notes of how San Francisco developed the way it did! Excellent opportunity for any one!

This museum is free and small but jammed full of interesting artifacts of streetcar transit in San Francisco and a bit of other city history. There is also a small gift shop area. There are not any real hands on exhibits for kids. It is well worth a stop if one is in the Embarcadero Plaza. The historic streetcars that run along The Embarcadero to Fisherman's Wharf and down Market Street to Castro can be caught right outside the door of the museum.

Stopped in for a quick look round after riding the trams. Not the largest place but packed full of information and exhibits. The guy on the desk was extremely helpful answering questions and giving extra information.

As the docent pointed out to us, the museum is small because most of the exhibits are out on the rails. I recommend a stop if you are a rail fan.

The museum was not quite what we expected. Yes, it is free but it is extremely small (it would easily fit inside your typical Mcdonalds outlet). It does not have old cable cars or trolleys and virtually no hands on exhibits. But it does provide a detailed history of San Francisco's public transit system through many photos and timelines. It does contain a decent little store where you can pickup cable car souvenirs. It's a very short walk from the Ferry Terminal.
