This is your typical Intercontinental Hotel - modern, polished and a bit pricey. The location is only 5 minutes from Union Square, so that's not an issue. Go a few blocks from the hotel and it starts looking a bit depressed. Somehow, it still feels safe. Not a fan of the "touch the food/drinks products and you will be charged" policy in relation to the bar fridge. Many have mentioned the valet parking is expensive: solution just park on the streets. There are plenty of free parking spots available between 9pm and 7 am. After that it is only $3 per hour. Go one street further down and it is 2 hours parking and only starts at 9am. Just watch out which night the street cleaners come. Also some overnight parking stations available in the area for $10/$20.

Back to our experience. The room is fine and we faced the bay. Not much of a view but no complaints. It's a nice place to stay. The only minor issue is the staff don't really seem to know much about street parking rules, so it was frustrating to ask a number of people on a simple question. Overall, I would happily stay here again.

My partner and I recently spent a long weekend in San Francisco and decided to try the IC San Francisco. I'm a Platinum Ambassador with ICHG and was promptly upgraded to a beautiful one bedroom suite on the 30th floor. Floor to ceiling 10 ft. high windows looking out over the city were breathtaking, and well worth booking a higher level room (with the hope, and subsequent success in getting the suite upgrade). We also paid the extra charge for access to the 'Executive Club'.

The hotel is located directly next door to the Mascone Center, and is a bit on the 'edge' of the cultural/shopping area of SF. I always felt safe, I just wouldn't suggest walking very far to the east of the property alone. However, President Obama has stayed here twice as president, so the area must be okay if he stays here!

This is a fairly new property and it looks it. Beautiful lobby, modern furniture, and all of the polish and class one expects from Intercontinental. The view from the room was beautiful, and the bed very comfortable. The bathroom was nice as well, but nothing to get too excited about. Also, for some bizarre reason, there wasn't a lot of storage space for clothes. Maybe I was expecting too much with a 'suite', but no more closet or drawer space than a normal size room (and this room was 700 square feet). The products supplied in the bathroom were also nice, but I cannot remember the brand.

The 'Executive Club' lounge was okay, but became very crowded over the weekend. I've been to many 'EC's' at IC around the world, but never seen one this small and crowded. The food was great, and staff very helpful, but nothing special. The same breakfast food every morning, and the staff did not accommodate for 'special requests'.

The gym was very nice, and there was a 'lap' pool that was extremely clean. There was a jacuzzi, but the sauna and steam room was only for 'guests of the spa'.

Overall this is nice hotel and had all of the 'bells and whistles' one has come to expect from a 5 star business hotel. The one thing that stuck in my mind about this property compared to other IC hotels is that there seemed to be a lot of children. There were so many and they were so loud in the 'Executive Lounge' that we began to avoid it.

I have just returned from 12 relaxing days at the IC San Francisco. The staff for the most part was really helpful and very friendly and efficient. Especially Luis in the Club Lounge -couldn't do enough for you and definitely deserves a big Thank You.

I would stress that the staff from check in to the two concierge Bill / William were really nice and welcoming and that includes you too Ms Shahani. My only complaint would be directed towards the daily housekeeping staff and one or two of the early morning breakfast staff in the Club Lounge who seemed more pre occupied with their own daily going on rather than restocking the facilities . Seriously you could learn one or three things about good customer service from Luis. He is the Bomb. The very poor cleaning of my room coupled with the stingy replacement of bathroom products was rather irritating for a hotel of this calibre!! You must request a room on one of the high floors the views are fantastic (I had room 3006). I had a room away from the lifts and therefore other then the odd inebriated guest my stay was very peaceful and quiet. I did have an issue prior to arrival which was resolved promptly and efficiently by the Guest Services Manager.

That said I would definitely visit San Francisco again and return to the IC because it is situated in a great location. Although I was a bit apprehensive being so close to the Tenderloin districts this was never an issue - it was all in the mind of other reviewers on TP. This is a great Family Friendly Hotel from which to walk around the whole City. If you don't mind walking then you will love this location. San Francisco is a beautiful city and deserves a second glance........

We arrived early in the morning without making prior arrangements for a early check-in. We were immediately issued a room. This was very helpful for us and certainly not expected. The hotel staff were friendly and the concierge was knowledgable regarding activities in and around the city. The bar staff recommended two excellent restaurants that were within walking distance of the hotel. The rooms and hotel common areas were clean and comfortable.

Family of 4 on a 2 night staycation during holiday season. Overall we are quite satisfied with the facilities and service. The 2 queen bedroom is not large but functional, and the bathroom has both a large shower stall, as well as a full bathtub. The gym is on the 6h floor and is decent enough with 5 treadmills, a few bikes and cross-trainers, as well as various weight machines, free weights, etc. and they also provide headsets to connect to the machine so you can watch TV properly. Also at the gym they provide apples for a healthy snack which is a nice touch and a first I've ever seen. It is also open 24/7 which is great. The pool is next to the gym and only big enough for doing laps. Mr. Bill S. the chief concierge is a consummate professional in providing the level of service and guidance for the guests. I think all other hotel concierge should take a class from him. Valet parking cost is quite high, so I parked on the lot across the street instead. Location is excellent in the SOMA area which has quite a few nice trendy restaurants/bars nearby. Also nearby is the Blue Bottle Coffee house which is hidden off an alley off Mission Street. There is nothing better to start off a day with a cup of strong java with wonderful aroma.
Overall, it was a pleasant and relaxing stay for us locals at the IC San Francisco.

I usually stay in lower-end hotels like Holiday Inn Express, etc., and I guess I'm unaccustomed to fancy digs like this. On one hand, the service and people here are terrific. Bill the concierge knows his city inside and out and was a real help.

On the other hand, the hotel's incessant nickle and diming is annoying. Their business center charges $10 for 20 minutes of internet time, plus $1.50 per b/w page to print. (!!) Wifi is $15 a day. Per device. And except for a tiny 5 x 5 x 5 inch section in the fridge that's yours to use, it's filled with overpriced beverages that you're charged for if you move them.

There's a super Irish pub right across the street. And it is super close to BART and the cable car line.

So if you have the cash, by all means, splurge away.

The hotel is very nice and new and the employees are very friendly. There are a few strange quirks, though. Very nice spacious room with big flat screen tv, but no bathtub? That seems kind of lame. The other thing about this hotel is that they charge for EVERYTHING. The biggest absurdity is that not only do they charge for wifi access -- and big time $14.95 a day. But they charge PER DEVICE. So if it's you and someone else in the family with an Ipad or laptop, you're suddenly paying $30 a day for a service which is free in many other hotels.
