Look, this hotel is located in the Tenderloin district. Yes, it’s the area where many of the homeless are located BUT the walk to the Museum was 8 minutes, the MUNI (public transit ) is 2 blocks away. All restaurants deliver ... and Uber is right there. The convention center is right next door.

This hotel is very nice, only the room is a bit too small. The breakfast was great and free coffee 24/7 is very nice to have on disposal. The staff was very polite and we have no problem with leaving our luggage in the hotel prior check in and after check out. The location is great as it is close to the Bart station and we felt safe.

The hotel made security its #1 priority for being in the city. The hotel is in Union Square very convenient. It's a 6$ uber pool ride from hotel to Fisherman's Wharf.
The hotel even had ice cream and snacks for sale!!
Would stay here again!!

Stayed a night there. Generally speaking, it's in the city center, quite convenient for a visit to San Fran. But it's kind of on the back side of the main street. Walking through the ally to the hotel, one would be hit by the stank of urine. It's not really a problem of the hotel itself, but the city in general, when you are not on the main streets. It's Hampton Inn, but price wise, it's not much less expensive than the full-service Hilton or Marriott nearby, even though the room I got at this hotel is unbelievably small. In addition, I was put in a room right next to the stairs with a giant trash can, and obviously housecleaning staff were working there at 4 in the morning. The front desk staff can use a bit better training when they do that to a diamond member.

I've given up leaving reviews for Hampton Inn's because they are all of a usually decent average standard but in this instance I had to say something for others looking to stay here.
The area itself is terrible. Next door is a crack den on one side, a dispensary beside that and an abandoned building on the other. There are a LOT of homeless people who will harass you. It's certainly not an area you want to be walking around in the evening. I would highly recommend staying elsewhere, even just 4 blocks away things are better. This must be one of the worst blocks on the worst streets.

The hotel claims to keep the doors locked at all times for guest safety but the reality was that the doors were always propped open.
I know the management will claim the street isn't their domain but frankly it's poor planning on Hilton's part to open a hotel in this location.

The actual hotel is fine, it's a newly constructed Hampton Inn and the rooms, facilities and amenities are as you would expect from this brand. Others have mentioned that the breakfast room is underground but it's fine. The layout of the serving area isn't great and does get congested but not a huge problem.

Finally the WiFi in room isn't great and please swap out the 1-ply paper in the bathrooms, no other Hampton Inn's use that. For the rate being charged an upgrade is in order.

Room Tip: A hotel in a different area.
