“Good location but...”
Reviewed 30 June 2012

The good central location is the only positive thing of this hotel.
The staff is very ill-mannered and uncaring in general.
The room safe didn't work, we left a pair of sunglasses (expensive ones) on the room and they were stolen. Manager didn't seem to care at all about it.
The elevator was often out of service.

I would try to avoid this hotel and choose any other one on the neighborhood.

I expect this place would have been great in the 1980s in a sort of aspirational hippy way. As it is, it is a little jaded, but perfectly comfortable and in the ideal location. Coffee and muffins are offered in the morning, but don't really constitute a proper breakfast

Would not recommend this hotel to anyone going to San Francisco. The only thing good about this hotel is the location, situated close to Union Square. Check in was slow and painful. very unfriendly staff and asked us for a $200 cash deposit, which i have never been asked for in cash by a hotel before. The lift is slow and gets stuck if more than 3 people use it. Stairs are so old and steep. Rooms are dirty and housekeeping horrible. Rooms facing Geary Street are very noisy so one gets woken up early morning by traffic. I specifically asked for a quiet room and my request was not granted. Breakfast is a joke, it should not be even called breakfast as there are just muffins and bread. When it rains the staff refuses to call a taxi for you, saying that taxis do not do pick ups at hotels if it rains. I thought this was very odd. Not a good stay at all, and would never go back to the Adante Hotel. Much better options in San Francisco.

We stayed at the Adante Hotel for 2 nights and didn't know what to expect, it turned out to be exactly what we needed! The room was small but for what we paid it was just fine and we didn't spend much time in the room anyways. It was very clean and the hotel staff were very friendly and extremely helpful with suggestions on restaurants and transportation. The location is great as it is only a few short blocks from Union Square. I would recommend this hotel for people that want a clean place to sleep with a good location, but aren't looking for a luxury stay.

To start, I got an e-mail saying there were 600+ readers of my review for the Pelham Hotel in New Orleans - thanks if you're one that checked that out. Anyways, new conference & new city this month. I would've given this hotel a 2.5 stars if existed. Look, I am a grad student on a budget and thinking back, I probably should've splurged a bit more this time.

Too start, my dorm bedroom from my freshman year of college would've given the room a run for it's money. It was pretty clean, however. I understand that many places are trying to cut down on sheets/towel laundry, however, I was not impressed with a card on everything that is normally done by room service asking you to please consider not having the item changed. To me, if you want a good cleanliness rating, do the job.

The service was so-so except for a younger gentleman who was in the last two days at nice. Everyone else was just indifferent to the guests. Bathrooms were actually quite clean, and the location was a decent walk but still pretty central to everything. I will not blame the hotel for the pan-handlers as they are EVERYWHERE and will follow you WHEREVER you go. There were three of us guys in one double room, we made it work, it was tight and it was a plus having free wi-fi. I do not care about hotel ammenities as I don't travel to hang out in the hotel, but I would only stay here again unless I absolutely had to. San Francisco is beautiful, treat yourself to a nice place.

Room Tip: Stay away from the street side. Rooms are hot so you have to keep the windows open because no A/C (a...

My friend and I stayed here over our short, 3 night visit to SF. I gave it a 2 of 5, as there is no 2.5 of 5 option. First off, the area is OK. A little further down Geary Blvd, away from Union Square area, the area gets sketchy. However, public transportation is pretty good in this city, so we didn't need to worry too much about the area we were staying in. My biggest complaint about this hotel was the lack of air conditioning. It got very hot throughout the day, making it uncomfy to sleep at night without the noisy ceiling fan on and the unscreened window open. Also, we were on the 7th (highest) floor, there is only one elevator, which does impose a 3 person limit (2 if you are carrying luggage)- if this rule isn't followed, you might get stuck. Room was pretty small. Overall clean. Continental breakfast was OK, although, as other reviewers have said, there was not enough space to accommodate everyone. Maybe I shouldn't complain, you do get what you pay for, and in comparison to most of the other hotels in the area, the price wasn't that bad.
