“Very nice, great staff, perfect location!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 June 2011

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Tuscan. The great location allowed us to return our rental car and walk or take the MUNI for the three days we were there. The staff was wonderful! The concierge took excellent care of us, he made some outstanding recommendations, and then followed up on every request. The hotel was charming and very clean. The room was a bit small but we spent so little time in it, It was never a issue. The only thing missing at this hotel is a nice place to relax outside. I would and will recommend this hotel to friends and family.

The Hotel is in a great location but the rooms were small, the matress was awful and the staff were very 'kurt'. They didn't say hello to us when we walked through the reception area and when I asked where breakfast was being served and if it was included I was looked at as though I was really thick and given a very short reply of 'no, it's not free' - implying that it was obvious that it wasn't. Even the car parking attendents looked miserable and even more miserable when we didn't give them a tip.
I wouldn't stay here again

My wife and I spent 3 nights here. Only 2 blocks from the Wharf easy to get around and the resturant next door is great. Staff was very friendly, offered great suggestions for getting around and we enjoyed our stay. Our rate through expedia was $156 a night which is a great bargin for this area. Beds are clean and while the mattresses are not high end they were comfortable. Only issue we had was a crying baby next door but really not the hotels issue just the luck of the draw and we could have change rooms if we wanted. Overall great stay and would recommend.

Read the reviews and they are right. Nice and cozy. The staff was very helpful and polite. We told them we were Best Western Rewards members and got "upgraded" to a king room. It was very "cozy" on the first floor with a view of an A/C unit. I wish I would have asked for a courtyard view but forgot. The room was fine for our short 2 night trip and the location could not be better for access to the pier. The bathroom was very cozy and clean, great shower and fluffy towels. Yes, parking is pricey but actually cheaper than other hotels in the area-- with in/out access. We also got a free breakfast (fruit, juice and muffin) in the cute restaurant attached. It was a perfect start to each day. Loved the free wi-fi in rooms. We also had a great meal at Frascati (a hard hike up Hyde St. so take a cab or trolley).

Hotel room was very clean and spacious. Rooms were a little close to each other and could hear absoultely everything that was going on next door.
This is the only hotel i think i have ever stayed that allows pets. The guest next door had a dog, which barked a few times... But most of the time you wouldnt know there were any pets in the hotel.

Hotel in fab location for cable cars, pier 39 and Fishermans Wharf. Easy walking distance to both.

Just a little tip - make sure you bring jumpers, gets very nippy, especially at night. We have visited in both September and June and both times we have needed jumpers/ coats.

We visited the Tuscan Inn as part of a holiday (but needing to work while there) in San Francisco, primarily to visit the opera, but decamping to Fisherman’s Wharf for a bit of rest and recreation. The location is no more than a block or two away from all the main attractions.

We found staff to be friendly and helpful. The bright and airy room was large enough for our needs. There was a good sized table. It was good to have a machine into which you can plug six appliances – helpful if you have a laptop, iPad and Blackberry with you as I did.

The room we stayed in had the benefit of a fridge and coffee maker. Wardrobe facilities (I was told that this is closet in American!) were sufficient for our needs, staying four days. I found the bed to be a little on the hard side but I suspect that this is a matter of taste.

There was a large, if a little old fashioned TV with sufficient channels to maintain our interest. WiFi access is free and reliable and the speed was fine for business use. An ironing board and iron are provided. Everything was clean and well serviced.

The bathroom was well appointed and functional though the shower took a little manipulation to get an acceptable temperature.

There were ice making and vending facilities on the floor we stayed on.

We didn’t eat in the restaurant. Breakfast prices seemed a little on the high side, but of course there are many options within walking distance. The wine hour between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. was a pleasant idea and a good opportunity to meet other guests – don’t expect premier grand cru though! The lobby area is spacious and well appointed.

Overall, we found nothing to complain about and much to admire.

We asked for a quiet room and they delivered. The room was small, but we found that most big city hotels in the USA have small rooms, unless you're prepared to pay a lot more. It was compact, but clean and comfortable, with a reasonable sized ensuite. We had a trip to Alcatraz booked early and the location couldn't have been better. It only took a few minutes to walk to the ferry. I had read reviews on this hotel and was nervous about the homeless situation. Yes they were there, but not a problem and not a nuisance. I was also nervous about the fact that this hotel takes pets, but only on the 1st floor, thank goodness, we were on the 4th floor. This was our 1st trip to the US and I am amazed at the obsession that Americans have with their pets. I even saw a dog on board a plane, I would have hated to occupy a seat after the animal had sat on it! It just doesn't happen in Australia. The staff were friendly enough, some were a little offhand and preoccupied. I liked the free internet and use of a computer, with half an hour limit. There was coffee or tea each morning in the lobby, but there were plenty of eating places close by. In particular, Darren's cafe on Taylor.

Room Tip: Ask for what you want, they can only say no.
