“Love your city!”
Reviewed 20 August 2014

We had a wonderful stay in this hotel with a quickly fixed hiccup. We arrived to wonderful staff who welcomed us, we were given our room and off we trotted. We opened the door to possibly the smallest room in history of hotels, basically should only be for 1 or a storage cupboard. We paid a fair bit for this stay and after 6 weeks of travelling together HAD to have more space! Without blinking the reception staff offered 2 alternative rooms, which we then chose our favourite. The hotel had a lovely set up, friendly feel and atmosphere and was beautifully located to Fishermans Wharf and a great neighbourhood. It was close to the hopon off bus stop and supermarkets. We didnt actually join in with the wine evenings but what a lovely touch for those with the time. San Francisco is a fantastic city and were so impressed with the overall friendliness of the people, the sights and thanks for putting fab weather on for us too!

This might be an unfair review of this hotel since we only stayed for a night, but my wife and I enjoyed this hotel for the short amount of time we were in San Francisco. The rooms were clean and my wife ESPECIALLY like the fact that even the TV remote control was cleaned and placed into a bag, as such. The king-sized bed was comfortable, big and felt clean. The bathroom and shower is huge. The only cons were the view (a wall), no breakfast and the high cost of parking. Full disclosure, I'm spoiled with the the free breakfasts at other hotels and of course parking is going to be expensive. I just wish it wasn't. I must mention, however, the great reception and service we received from Adam. He made us feel welcome and was helpful at every turn. He was also very knowledgeable about the hotel and ownership. It seemed he was happy and thankful for the role he played within the hotel. That is refreshing and encouraged. Thank you, Adam!

We were there on business, but it should be noted that The Tuscan has great value and it's location is perfect to see the city if you are from out-of-town.

We stayed for three nights on fourth floor. Very quiet room although our view from the window was a brick wall. Restaurant Pescatore is a bit pricey for the size of the servings although the service was impeccable. Overall a pleasant stay. Wifi in the room a bit sketchy.
Hollywood cafe have the most delicious breakfast. Make sure you get there early and put your name down on the list as soon as you arrive. Fast service great food. The Boudin bakery is also a great place to eat and see all the mechanics of a very busy bakery. So many different breads of all shapes.
Grayline buses have great day and night tour packages. Good commentary and very obliging if you want to get off at any time. Information centre just near Holywood cafe for booking bus tours etc. very helpful staff.
Alcatraz is a must see. Make sure you check availability of tours weeks in advance as they book quickly especially if you're only in SF for a few days.
Sausalito is also another interesting visit - over the Golden Gate Bridge.
Enjoyed our trip immensely.

Room Tip: Fourth floor very quiet

My wife and I celebrated our 29th wedding anniversary by spending 4 days/nights in San Francisco. We chose the Best Western Tuscan because of its location in the heart of the Fisherman's Wharf area. We did not have a car, but were able to walk to every major attraction in the area. While a bit on the pricey side, the hotel staff and accomodations were more than adequate for our needs.

Stayed in this hotel with my husband and parents on a trip in April. This was my second trip to San Francisco, and this hotel is great! Its perfectly located in Fisherman's Wharf, within walking distance of everything (Union Square easily 30 min away walking!). Its a great family hotel, with wine receptions daily and a good restaurant next door. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Car rental just next door, no need to rent car unless travelling outside the city.

We booked a one night stay at The Tuscan for my 9 year old daughters early morning surgery at UCSF (we live about 2 hours away). We had limited choices since it was a late booking. We normally stay at 4 star minimums such as Hilton, Hyatt's and Marriott's, so I was hesitant about a Best Western.

It turns out it was the BEST choice I could have made. I travel a lot and stay in high end hotels and resorts and am very picky and yet I was very, very, very happy with our visit.

We pulled in to the valet parking and it was backed up and very busy. We were pleasantly surprised when Tom Samway greeted us at our car, took our luggage and brought us straight to the check-in desk. It turned out he was the manager at the hotel.

He asked us the reason for our visit, and when he found out it was for our daughters surgery he and the other staff were genuinely concerned. He upgraded us to a suite without us asking with a water view even though this was a discount booking through TripAdvisor. Within 30 minutes of check in he had sent up a gift for my daughter and a bottle of wine for me and her dad with a hand written note to my daughter of how he and the staff knew our daughter would pull through just fine (which she did by the way).

The entire staff remembered us by name as we came and went and joked and played around with my daughter. Truly excellent customer service and truly friendly staff. Tom was just fantastic!!!!!!

In regards to the hotel itself, it is only a few blocks to the action and is a smaller hotel. Great location for tourist. The lobby is very pretty and upscale and the rooms were remarkably nice and updated for a 3 star. I would even say more like a 4 star - not perfect, but I am a very picky person (the type that changes rooms even after unpacking if not satisfied) and I would actually have been happy with the room even if it wasn't a free upgrade. The suite is small granted, but all hotels in this area are going to have small rooms. It is San Francisco after all. The sheets, furnishings and bathroom were all very nice and the bed was newer and very comfy. No "ick" factor anywhere, and as I mentioned was in line with a Hyatt or Hilton in my point of view. Our room even had a pretty good shot of the bay.

Note this is a very busy part of the city, so if your room faces the street it will be nosy all night long regardless of the hotel. This is not the Tuscan's fault, it is just part of being in San Francisco. If noise is an issue I would suggest you request a room facing inward which I guess they would call a court yard - which is basically a fountain and some very pretty potted flowers.
Also, the windows will often be dirty on the outside regardless of the hotel, that is from the "city" affect and being so close to the salt water of the bay. Please don't hold it against the hotels.

I have stayed at the Hilton and Marriot at Fishermen's Wharf before, but I will defiantly choose The Tuscan Best Western during our next visit!

Have a wonderful stay in San Francisco regardless of where you choose to stay!

Room Tip: Note this is a very busy part of the city, so if your room faces the street it will be nosy all nigh...

We stayed at The Best Western Plus The Tuscan last week for 4 nights and could not have been happier with our stay. The room was very clean, the staff were extremely helpful & friendly, and the complimentary wine in the evenings and coffee in the morning were a nice touch. The hotel location was great- we could walk to Fisherman's Wharf in just a few minutes, North Beach was a 10 minute walk to great restaurants, and lots of other easy transit options to get around the city. We noticed on our last night there were two bikes which presumably we could have used so make sure to ask as we regret not doing so! Instead we walked to the Golden Gate which was about 6.5 km and on a very hot day so the bikes would have been a better option!

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room to limit the amount of noise from your neighbours! Our neighbour left their tv...
