Let's start with the positive. Great location just a block from union square. First 3 floors currently under renovation which makes using the stairs a bit fraught. Rooms are ok. A little tired. Sinks take ages to drain, toilets noisy. No air con only ceiling fans. Quite noisy through the night. But! Good value for money

The hotel locates just a block away from the union square. You can find restaurant, and convenient stores just minutes of walk away. Since the room is not big, but for a three-star hotel around union square, it is still understandable.

There's only coffee and tea supplied in the morning at the lobby. But I didn't go for it.

Construction carried on during my stay at day time.

Room Tip: Book a room on the hotel's website. There is promotion sometime and you can get better price...

Went there for the GDC event was quite satisfied.
King George Hotel is conveniently located near union square in the more normal part of San Francisco. The rooms are small (at least mine was), but clean and convenient, the service was professional and for its price, it's a great bang for the buck.

Room Tip: Take the higher floors on the back of the hotel, there won't be any view but if you're looki...

I rarely care about all the "stuff" that hotels can offer other than a good sleep in a convenient location at an appropriate price. In order to have a good sleep, I need a clean and quiet room with a firm bed which is of a pleasant temperature. A convenient location means a site within walking distance of my chosen destinations and public transit. The price is commensurate with the location within the city I've chosen. In this case, San Francisco can be pricey at any time and this hotel was very affordable. Perhaps it's considered to be in a dodgy neighbourhood ("Tenderloin" - dear God, the imagination runs wild: tender + loins = I don't know - sex, male prostitutes ...?) but during our 4 nights there we encountered none of that (at least it didn't come up and bite us), just a bit of "spare some change?" which one can encounter in most of urban North America. The place was clean, quiet, the thermostat worked (which was good since, at times, one side of a San Francisco street can be in a chilly fog while the other can be in the blazing sun - and it changes regularly) and the location is two blocks from Union Square which is a seemingly very safe and central downtown hub of shops and sights - lots of shops, you can see one of the cable car termini and Chinatown's southern end is a couple of blocks away. Also BART from SFO runs down Market and has a stop at Powell which means only a ~4 block trip with your bags. I can't say anything about the "other" services offered by this place because we never used them. It Really gave us everything we wanted, let alone, needed.

I loved this hotel and the renovations will obviously add to it's charm. The staff was the nicest group of people I've had help us at any hotel. They were always happy to answer questions and accommodate us. Which is exactly what they did when we arrived at 10 am on our check in day. They had us in a room within 10 mins with no extra charge for early check in.

Yes the rooms are smaller but ours was renovated. It worked for us as we were rarely in the room. Only small downside was no fan in the bathroom.

Other pluses... The free wifi is actually free as well as the coffee, tea, and water in the lobby. The valet is $40 a day after tax. In San Francisco this is amazing.

Location is amazing! Right near Union Square in the heart of downtown. We were happy to see a 24 hour diner across the street and a liquor store 30 feet up on the corner. There is also a Lori's 50's diner next door and a jack in the box across the street. Plenty of other restaurants and shopping nearby.

I would absolutely stay here again! Bravo to the staff for being good at that their jobs and happy nice people overall.

Enjoyed our stay at the King George hotel. Yes, it is old, but it is fine. The hallways are narrow, the elevator is small, and in the bathroom you have to close the door to sit on the toilet! But, It reminded me of a simpler time when we were not so concerned about excess. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the service good. Would stay there again.
