Really, really surprised by my stay at the Serrano. Hands down nicest hotel staff ive had the pleasure of meeting in San francisco. Felt like a family rather than a hotel while still managing to maintain utmost professionalism and privacy. Was really great to be so wonderfully surprised by this great hotel especially since it wasnt a chain or A hotel name I recognized.

Stand out staff members included :
-Stefan the gracious , attentive and kind bellman:
-Pam Davis and Deo at the front desk who were always smiling and full of great information regarding places to eat and see:
-Connie and rosa santos, cheerful and thoughtful housekeepers!

My room was small but also located ina fantastic location close to tons of shops and restaurants in all different price points.

Great value for the price and overall fantastic stay. Im definitely going to stay in the Serrano in the future.

When I booked this hotel about a week and a half ago, Expedia was still calling it a Kimpton hotel. I love Kimpton hotels and the extra services they provide. So to my surprise when I showed up for wine hour at 5:00 (which every Kimpton hotel has) I was told they have not been a Kimpton since February. I went and checked on Expedia today and they are not calling the Serrano a Kimpton anymore. I'm not sure I would have booked knowing this. The lobby is beautiful, the staff were helpful. Like everyone else, I wasn't wild about the $20 fee they charge, but figured it would help pay for the wine. Oh well. The rooms are tiny. There were two small drawers in the room and only a couple shelves to put your toiletries in the bathroom. The AC works well, but it's also very loud and woke me up when it came on. The beds are only doubles, so it's crowded for two. Jasper's has a nice happy hour, but service was nonexistent when we went and the place wasn't busy. Would I book here again? I would if the rates were very good and if there were only two of us in the room.

We are very sorry that you were disappointed in your recent stay at our hotel. We have checked with our partner, Expedia, and we have been assured that the Kimpton property description was removed when the change occurred. We are not able to explain why it failed to display the correct information for you and we apologize for the confusion. The Serrano Hotel is wonderful – we couldn’t agree more. That’s why we kept the same people and the friendly professional service our guests always comment on. In fact, we’re committed to making this hotel better than it’s ever been. We will carefully consider all your comments, thank you. We have a lot in store, so check back in with us soon.

we stayed at the Serrano on 4/21 and 22. When we drove into the area to return our car at Enterprise (location around the corner, very convienent), we were very put off by all the homeless people on the street right at the corner. My son also had a bit of an altercation with one person on the street, who incorrectly thought my son was taking a picture of him and wanted money (he was actually using his GPS to find his way back to the hotel).
Anyway, once that was over, we had a very nice time. The lobby is inviting and looks old Italy, the rooms were well appointed and clean. Room size is similar to other rooms within cities I have stayed in.
Was a bit surprised with the $20/day 'urban fee'. No one told us at check in that it would be charged or what was included....could do a beter job telling people in advance. Or, just up the room rate by $20/night and advertise everything that is included. Less bad feelings at the end.

Alison,
We are glad that you enjoyed our décor and rooms. We sincerely apologize for any inconveniences you and your son encountered in the area near our hotel. For your future reference, our Urban Fee can be found directly under the nightly rate on all online booking engines and includes; morning coffee and tea, all day flavored water in reception, morning newspaper, town car service Mon thru Fri to the financial district, unlimited local calls and faxes, boarding pass printing, use of our bicycles and very fast high speed Wi-Fi. In our experience, guests appreciate one price for all that the fee includes, instead of separate charges for each item. Booking travel can often be a complicated endeavor as you try to compare and price a variety of hotels. Our travel partners that provide your booking experience are not always successful at delivering the information you need to fully evaluate your stay choice. It seems in this case you did not see details of the Urban Fee and we will address that with our partner. If you feel you need to discuss this further, please contact our General Manager at john.sevilla@serranohotel.com.

Looks good but not a hotel I will return. It is not very practical, the rooms are small as well as the bathrooms, the restaurant with is actually a bar have a very bad service, smells bad and is very expensive. It is clean and the staff is friendly. Seem to be a good price but you finish paying a lot in transport and food. And an urban unknown fee they add for each day….

I only stayed one night for a concert at the Warfield. The location for downtown was nice but just be aware that you have a walk a couple of blocks in not the best area to get there from the BART/surrounding areas. I didn't have a problem though and got back to the hotel late at night. The lady at the front counter was a sweetheart, she was originally going to put me on the second floor but instead moved me to the 16th since it would be quieter. The only difference was the room didn't have a desk, which I didn't need anyways. The room was small but cozy, perfect for just me. The only weird thing was the bathroom where the toilet was right behind the door, and the toilet paper was on the other side of the small bathroom (but there wasn't a better place to put it honestly). Overall I would stay here again!

Room Tip: The higher up, the less traffic noise

At the end of a trip you see a PER DAY $20 "Urban Fee" - which is basically the hotel adding a fee for items (explained to me as) "coffee in the lobby for an hour each morning, bike rentals, gym and internet" - and at check in they tell you internet is free and no one mentioned the bike.

This "fee" lets them lower their per day rate on sites like booking.com, hotels.com etc. but they manage to swindle you at the end anyway.

And calling it an "Urban Fee" is clearly a way to get guests to think its a city tax or something.

Oh - and this four star hotel charges $6.50 for a tiny toothpaste.

A pathetic experience. Avoid!

At first I wasn't impressed by the location or the hotel's exterior...but once Inside I found it charming. It is on the border of a run-down area with many homeless people on one side, and the upscale shops and hotels close to Union Square on the other. It's an older property but very well maintained, and importantly, very clean and welcoming. From the valet parking (very expensive for a four-night stay at $59 a night) to reception, the staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are mid-sized and have been modernized, the queen-sized bed was very comfortable, and the renovated bathroom was small but in perfect working order. A nice touch is the bathrobes provided. A big plus for me is the fact that in older hotels like this you can open the windows for fresh air.

I could have parked across the street for $10 less each night, but preferred the security of their valet service. A call to reception will get your car brought round within ten minutes.

As others have mentioned, the extra $20 per night fee seems greedy - I'd rather it was included in the basic rate - and when asked what it was for they said it was coffee in the lobby (which I didn't take, so,why should i pay?) and wi-fi...but the promotion says "wi-fi" without mentioning that it is an extra charge. A bit cheesy.

All in all, a good hotel - reasonably priced, friendly, and clean.

Room Tip: Higher rooms have a better view.
