The hotel is in a great position, right in the city center and close to shops, restaurant and theaters. Is very cheap so you cannot expect luxury rooms, they are quite small with old furniture but more than decent and cozy.

I was staying in San Francisco for a business conference and needed accommodation pretty central for a reasonable cost. If you look at this hotel purely from a location vs cost perspective then it would be overall good.

However, as soon as you start applying any other factors the property falls down to the Average category. The decor is faded, the fixtures are like something from your grandparents home, and the WiFi service, whilst complimentary, was so poor it may as well have not been provided at all (particularly annoying for anyone staying there on business). You don't even get a sachet of Shampoo/Conditioner etc for the bathroom - instead you are politely directed to the local supermarket.

When I asked about the poor WiFi connectivity, the cheerful hotel clerk advised me to go to the local Starbucks "like everyone else does". I have to question why the hotel hasn't done anything to address that one particular annoyance.

I've seen some reviews stating that the property wasn't clean. I certainly didn't get that impression. My room was cleaned by a very cheerful member of staff every day. It's not the maid's fault that the whole property needs a refurbishment.

If cost and location are your main drivers then this hotel may be ok for you but I'd overall recommend going for something with a slighter higher cost and more features.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel have a better view but are noisier, rooms at the back look straight...

Admittedly, we weren't expecting 4-star quality for the price and location, but this likely ranks as one of the worst hotels I've stayed at. The rooms were small, dirty, old, noisy, the hot water wouldn't work, the front desk wasn't consistently serviced, and the room is only serviced every other day.

While centrally located near Union Square, the area didn't feel safe and certainly has changed considerably since my last stay in San Francisco within Union Square 10 years ago.

I was booked to stay with my young family for 3 nights, but moved to another property on the last day of our stay. On a positive note, the person working there on our checkout was extremely helpful and friendly, and refunded us our last night's payment.

My advice is to pay extra and stay somewhere nicer (and you can get more hotel bang for your buck staying away from Union Square).

Room Tip: I can't say anything positive about finding a good room apart from getting one away from the roa...

This hotel was awful! The deadbolt didn't work, toilet seat was cracked in half & appeared to be glued back (haphazardly) together. Bathroom door would not close--door off bottom hinge. No bath towels, only hand towels. Had to turn lamps on & off by unplugging them! Felt very creepy, dirty & unsafe. Noisy too! Woke up to bottles being dumped into empty dumpster outside window at 4:30 a.m!

Room Tip: go two doors down to DIVA hotel....MUCH NICER!

Our party of 3 came from the UK and didnt expect the Ritz for the price. However, a basic amount of cleanliness and hygiene we did expect. The room i was given smelt of vomit! Sheets not clean. As for the other rooms they left a lot to be desired. You wouldnt go barefoot on the carpets!
After being there 5 minutes ,complained and full refund given with no argument.

Had 3 UK friends plus us needing a place before setting off on our cruise. One night. Perfect! Don't expect room service, a bar or basically anything except a great location. Minutes from Union Square and China Town. V old SF hotel but clean and friendly. Not for a week's holiday but a great base. Diner opposite fab for breakfast but long queues in the morning. Rooms a bit noisy owing to location.

Room Tip: Think they're all the same!
