“convenient location/pleasant staff”
Reviewed 26 May 2014

The hotel is located within walking distance of a cable car stop, the BART and buses to the wharf and Chinatown.
The neigborhood is not as bad as some have reported. There is the smell of "weed" throughout the city as it is used openly around most public areas. The homeless issue is citywide and some are becoming more assertive.
Despite the everyday noises associated with larger cities (emergency vehicles, bars emptying out at closing), we slept comfortably with the windows open (no a.c.)
The room and common areas werevery clean and the staff was quite friendly and helpful. The basic kitchen was adequate. However, the hotel shares the refrigerator with you with an "honor bar" that leaves little room for personal food.
We went to a Giants' game, spent a day at the zoo and another just walking around the city. We were able to use buses 75 cents, the BART or Muni system, cable cars and taxis, all within safe walking distance.
The breakfast included fresh fruit and pastries and the wine and cheese were served daily at 4:30.
Bring your own coffee and filters. There is a grocery store across the street with most food needs available.
We would stay here again.

Room Tip: Room 810 was just fine. The top floor, eighth, seemed to be the least noisy

Love this hotel. Extremely well priced for San Francisco, and great location! Very clean : yes, can be a little noisy and sometimes wifi is very slow and sometimes doesn't work (just go to lobby to use) - these are just comments for people to be prepared! But, when I am in San Francisco, I won't stay anywhere else because this is great value for money and staff are very helpful and attentive. I am concerned that it will get more and more popular and there won't be a room for me! Make sure you book in advance!

This hotel is well located just a short walk from Union Square. It is one of the older hotels in San Francisco and has limited facilities. No restaurant or coffee shop, although breakfast of pastries and fruit is served in the foyer area. Our room was comfortable but there are noise issues, especially on Saturday nights. None of the windows are double glazed and there is no air conditioning. Heating in our room was provided by a small radiator that gurgled it's way through the night. There was complimentary wine, cheese and nibbles provided in the evening between 5pm and 7pm, a nice touch. The staff were helpful and although the hotel needs some work it was fair value. One word of warning; the WiFi is hopeless. We could not get a consistent signal even in the foyer where we were told it was strongest. We had been travelling around the States for an extended period and it was important that we were able to keep in touch with family. It is so bad that they shouldn't advertise this as a benefit.

Been there for 2 days, it has a a good value for money considering its location, very close to the Union Square and many restaurants and convenience stores. Front desk is ok. Room is quite large, yet very old. Cons go to the wifi, although free, it just doesn't work in the room. Overall speaking, if one is looking for good value for money and central location this is definitely a good option.

Stayed here for 3 nights. Arrived just as they were serving cheese and wine, lovely. We had warm welcome, nice room very well equipped. The hotel is very well situated not far from Union square. Breakfast was continental. Pastries and fruit which was adequate. The rooms were clean and very comfortable bed. Would recommend this hotel.

We spent one night here so that we could be right in Union Square without having to negotiate all of the hills. The location was great, close to the shopping and dining and the cost was reasonable. They have a nice little pub and restaurant that we enjoyed.

Room Tip: Very little elevator so try and stay on a lower floor. Ask for a non smoking room. The rooms are ver...

In the first place we got a room next to a generator outside (room 416) and this was very noisy so the next morning we asked for an other room. This was no problem for the staff and they found a better room for us very quickly. The staff was very friendly and helpful in general also when I wanted to make a phonecall in my room which didn't workout. They let me make a call in there office.
Although the heater was turned off it kept heating up which was not very nice. The water pressure was very good. The lokation is perfect so overall we had a plesant stay.

Room Tip: This is a very good option for a plesant stay.
