“A little dated but clean and friendly”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2014

I stayed with my mum in a junior suite room which was very spacious and had lovely comfortable beds. The decor was generally good and had been modernised. There was one net curtain in the kitchen area that was a bit old-looking but other than that, very nice. The bathroom had a jacuzzi bath which was nice. The shower controls seemed a bit odd at first but I got the hang of them eventually. The wine and cheese in the evenings was fantastic and very generous. There was always somebody coming around topping up your wine which I always appreciate. The breakfast was nice too with lovely fresh melon and pastries. If you go at busy times, you can struggle to find a seat in the lobby but generally it was fine and you can take things back to your room if necessary. The location is very handy for all the sites as it's only 3 blocks from Union Square. All in all, a very characterful and charming place that I would definitely return to when back in SF.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking Jones street are quieter.

This was probably the worst room we have ever rented. the shades were broken, bathrooms had sliding plywood doors under sink. Dated wallpaper and stained bedspreads! The only good note was their wine hour was very generous. If you have to stay there make sure its a suite as they are updated.

What a delightful hotel, within easy walking distance of downtown San Fran. The old world charm, with all mod cons, was the real surprise. Comfy clean rooms, everything you'd need, and all in the setting of a delightful Victorian style building (such a nice change from impersonal modern motels!) Staff were all helpful, and the added bonus was a wine and cheese happy hour every afternoon. Free use of computers for internet research in the lobby also a great touch. Would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: We requested a quiet room and were given one, not facing onto the main street.

Rooms are spacious & lovely. Staff is helpful, friendly, willing to go out of their way to make the guests' experience a good one. Conveniently located close to Union Station and at a City Sightseeing hop on/hop off tour bus stop (saves lots of time, gives more destination options, and saves $$ vs cable car), transportation to anywhere in the San Francisco area is easy and affordable. Really enjoyed our stay!!

We stayed here in early May for 3 nights. It is centrally located and they give good service. We are a family of 4 with 2 teenaged kids. The upgraded us to a suite which had 2 queen beds in the room and a pull out bed in the living room. My husband is a light sleeper and complained of noise on the street, but the rest of us were ok with it. The kitchen was well equipped and as there is a grocery shop opposite the road, we had the option of dining in (saved on cost). The bathroom was huge and clean. There was plenty of space for all of us. And the manager even gave us a deal on attractions. All in all, a good trip, Will definitely go again

The hotel was nice and clean and staff were very helpful. We were two couples and stayed for three nights. There was a kitchen which was handy for making tea but not really enough dishes for much else. Still, there are so many nice restaurants and prices are good so we did not worry about that. It was noisy at night so you may want to bring ear plugs. The breakfast was great with fresh fruit and pastries and we really enjoyed the wine and cheese in the late afternoon. It is in a very handy location and you can walk pretty much everywhere.

Room Tip: Room with kitchen good option for two couples because there is two separate rooms to sleep in with M...

The hotel is great, near a lot of stores and restaurants, easy to find anything you want, only the breakfast is not so good. There are only some fruit and muffins! But I'd stay there again for sure!!!
