We stayed in suite 707 on the corner. It had a bedroom with 2 queen beds, a living room with a murphy bed, a full kitchen, and a very large double sink counter, a jacuzzi tub and a bidet to boot. The furniture and fixtures are dated to the 80/90s but in very good shape and very clean. The beds were very comfortable with nice linens. The suites are great for a family or a girlfriend getaway. I did not see the smaller rooms with the single queen bed. The continental breakfast is just okay. You can have some fruit and a danish and a good cup of coffee to tie you over untilyou go out to breakfast. Better yet, go to the Ferry Building the day before and by some great cheese, bread and coffee and have yourselves a great breakfast in your suite with the fully equipt kitchen. Another bonus, their mini bar is stocked with a house chardonnay for $10.00. Can;t beat that.

Like the previous reviewer mentioned that this is not a $300/night hotel. However, it is a good hotel. Very close walking distance to Union Square. We even walked from Fisherman's Wharf to the hotel (40 min). Beware the hills!
The rooms were clean and were a fair size. One day, we put the sign to not be disturbed all day and the maids left a bag with clean towels by our door. Very thoughtful! There was a fridge in the room that was stocked with drinks which were reasonably priced. The TV did not have as many channels as I'd hoped. I was sick in bed and that is why I wrote this. Otherwise, TV is not a necessity when visiting San Francisco.
We stayed in two different rooms and noticed that it was a lot quieter in the room that was not facing the street. Bring ear plugs!
Breakfast consisted of pastries, muffins, croissants, fresh cut up melon, bananas and coffee and teas. Wish they had juice but there are stores around to buy some. A very good restaurant that serves breakfast and sandwiches all day is Honey Honey (2 blocks away).
There are two computers in the main lobby for use. The staff and doorman are very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel. However, it is not that romantic for a couple if you are looking for that. More like an older hotel which has been maintained very well.

Our family of 6 vacationed in San Francisco last week and we stayed at the Beresford Arms. We stayed in their Parlor Suite which was ample room for the 6 of us...two beds and a Murphy bed. It is an older hotel, but it is kept up very well. The staff was very helpful. We rented a car and the valet service was impeccable ($24/ night)..... Always on time. They never expected a tip, but I gladly gave it. The nightly wine and cheese was very nice to come home to after a full day of the sites. The hotel reminds me of the quaint hotels of the French Quarter (the nice ones) in New Orleans. It is not a luxury hotel like the others down the street, but it doesn't pretend to be. It is what it is. An older, very well kept hotel with very good service. Very nice architectural elements in the lobby.

This part of my review is in response to the unflattering reviews of the Beresford Arms that I have read on the Trip advisor:

Vacationers that expect a gourmet breakfast or mints on their pillows at night need to go somewhere else and pay $300+/ night. San Francisco is a colorful town which has great sites, extreme hills, and the occasional peculiar personalities walking the streets. The sirens at night and the indigents populating the city is a fact of city life. You will find this no matter where in San Francisco you stay.....Union Square, The Tenderloin, China Town, North Beach.........but probably not Nob Hill. The homeless can't afford the lease rates on the park benches. :) If these aspects of city life bothers you, then you need to go to Disney Land or any of the all-inclusive resorts that populate the vacation seen. One more note..........the door-man at the Sir Francis Drake was placing a bet with his bookie when we pasted by the hotel on Thursday night. Gotta love it. I tried to get in on the action but the bookie wouldn't take. :( Only kidding, I really just walked by.

Stayed here for 3 nights last week. We had a family suite, 2 queen beds with a living/dining area that had a murphys bed plus a small kitchen.
It was clean, spacious and quiet. At night you did hear the city noises i.e. fire trucks but isn't that expected. This was a good location to walk to a lot of places in SF. I first wanted to stay in Fishermans wharf glad I didn't I like Union Sq much better.
Would definitely stay here again.

Generally speaking, a standard room is expected to be just that: standard. However, this hotel is beautiful, and elegant...it is older, so if you like brilliantly, shiny new - look elsewhere. The furniture is not new, nor is is pristine, but none of that matters. It is clean, very clean and believe it or not, charming! As I said, I stayed in a standard room, I can only imagine what the other rooms were like.

The bathroom is a full bathroom, and has sliding doors instead of a shower curtain. This is a daring move on their part because such a thing is usually hard to keep clean, but this was sparkling clean. The view was nice. Not anything I would write home about, but it is nice. Access to public transit is easy, and the staff is VERY VERY knowledgable and friendly.

I highly recommend this place during a visit to San Francisco.

We are a family of six travelling throughout Northern California on a ten day vacation. We stayed in a suite at the Beresford Arms Hotel which was extremely comfortable for the six of us. The bedroom was large and the beds were extremely comfortable as was the Murphy bed in the living room. The kitchen was well equipped and the furnishings throughout the suite were well appointed. The staff at the front desk were very courteous and helpful. We were a short walk from Union Square, Chinatown and the cablecars.
The valet parking for our rental car was also trouble-free and convenient. Our stay in San Francisco was that much more enjoyable due to the comfort of this hotel.

We just returned from a 4 day stay at the Beresford Arms and were pleasantly surprised by this charming grande dame of a hotel. She oozes old San Fran ambiance with a shabby chic style, but comfortable, like a favourite pair of slippers. The hotel was quiet, clean and comfortable. We had a semi-suite, with a large room, kitchen and huge bathroom that adjoined a single room across a private hallway. When the outer door was closed, it was like our own apartment. The rooms have tall ceilings, with deep mouldings and baseboards, recently painted and newly carpeted. The beds leave a little to be disired, as they were too soft, but everything was clean and cozy. We were able to walk to the Powell Street Cable cars, Union Square and all the theatres. It is close to the Tenderloin, but it didn't affect us at all...just didn't go there! There are a lot of wonderful restaurants at your doorstep and the valet parking was much more reasonable per day, then many other hotels. The car was picked up and dropped off as we required it and any request was met with a smile and a prompt effort to help. My daughter needed her valedictory speech printed off, before we left for her graduation ceremony and they did it free of charge and wished her luck. It is not your typical chain hotel...more along the lines of a quirky boutique hotel. We would certainly return to the Beresford and heard several other families and adults commenting on the charm and uniqueness of the hotel. It is convenient and very reasonably priced for what you get and includes a basic continental breakfast and an informal wine and cheese selection in the afternoons. It's like visiting at an old friends house, where you just make yourself at home! We enjoyed our stay.
