“Quaint old Hotel with twentieth century feel”

As you enter the Mystic hotel you can't but appreciate the decor and the atmosphere . In the heart of downtown San Francisco you are well placed to catch cable carts, buses. Taking a short stroll gets you right into the shopping area. The room are on the small size( at least the one we were in) but every need is met with well appointed and the service is great. Breakfast is included in the price and although not abundant in choices it is fresh.

Room Tip: Room 309 is located next to the service area and looks onto a back lane way with rubbish dumps. Unfo...

Very classy boutique hotel with friendly staff, and amazing beds. The overall design is contemporary, but a pleasant 1920's feel. The rooms are compact, but well designed and furnished. In particular, the beds are extremely comfortable (on par with the W's beds), and the showers are very nice: well-appointed, with good water pressure, high showerheads, and consistent temperature.

The staff (particularly the night manager, Eilea) are kind and helpful. There's a bar on the second floor with a cool speakeasy feel, and a restaurant. I haven't eaten in the restaurant, but the hotel's namesake is a chef.

As for cons: The lack of air-conditioning is disappointing for a hotel this classy, but is rarely necessary in San Francisco. There usually aren't any views to speak of (in most rooms it's just the side of the building next door). I didn't find this a major con; in some ways this adds to the 1920s feel of the hotel. Finally, the walls are a bit thin, so sometimes you can hear the cleaning crews or various bumps and thumps happening outside the hotel. Hardly a dealbreaker.

I've stayed at hotels all over SF, and this is my favorite. Best value for the money in SF. I'm consistently impressed.

The Mystic Hotel is a great alternative to the large, corporate hotels in the area. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. When I informed them that my friend was coming instead of my husband, they upgraded me to a larger room. The front desk helped me catch the right bus/train to Sacramento and find a place for breakfast that was open early. They are a short walk from Union Square but not right in the middle of the tourist bustle. I appreciated that breakfast was included. The room was beautiful, and I loved that there were interior stairs to walk to it. I couldn't take advantage of the restaurant coupon, but it was a nice touch as well. I chose this hotel because of the good price and location, but I will come back for the great service!

Absolutely loved this hotel! Upon check in were given an upgrade by the front desk manager, Stacy and she couldn't have been more pleasant. Waiting in our upgraded suite was a complementary fruit and cheese platter. This hotel is centrally located and walking distance from pretty much everything. Even though it was a busy weekend, with pleanty of outside noise, we didn't hear a single noise from within the hotel. Not even a door being shut. The room was amazing with a king size bed (I will be purchasing one of those mattresses for myself) and a beautiful bathroom with glass shower and rain faucet. We were on the 5th floor with a fire escape, that we could actually use as a balcony.
We didn't get to experience the restaurant downstairs, as we didn't make a reservation in time, but the continental breakfast was delicious. This hotel, and Stacy, made our San Francisco getaway better than we ever expected!

Room Tip: Larger corner suites are going to be the most comfortable and roomy

The Mystic (formerly the Crescent) Hotel has changed very little despite the name change in all the right ways. This has become our favorite hotel to stay in when we are not playing tour guide for visiting family. Like other travelers have commented, this is a charming boutique hotel located in an older building and yes it is true, the elevator is excruciatingly slow. Luckily, we are all in reasonably good health and the stairs are quick and convenient since the hotel is smaller but this might be a real issue for guests that need the elevator. The best part of the change in ownership is the improved breakfast. There are plenty of delicious choices for a light breakfast to start your day. I noted that another traveller commented on not having tea available as an option but tea, coffee, water and juices were all available for us and with table service too-all served in the lounge/bar which is a popular night spot on weekend evenings with live music. There is a substantial extra charge for parking, but you have in and out privileges. However, there is a large parking structure directly across the street for 1/2 the cost! But no in and out, so you have convenient options if you drive into the city. One last thing, be prepared that the rooms are nicely appointed but small. Even the suites are on the small side so if you have a large party be prepared to reserve multiple rooms.

Room Tip: If you need quiet to rest, request a room on the upper levels far away from the lounge/bar. Just kno...

Mystic hotel is a leap away from anything you need in SF (public transrportaion, shopping, china town, restaurants and cafes).

They have a small morning snack buffet with starbucks coffee and fresh juice.

Nice rooms with free wifi. Check the bar in the second floor, good burgers.

We stayed for four nights in a 5th floor room with a queen bed, nice decor and a view of the alley where every morning about 6 am, we heard the trash company pick up the trash. The space is limited without the usual dresser for your clothes (we had to use the night stands). The complimentary breakfast was a great time and cost saver. It included fruit, coffee, orange juice, oatmeal, bagels and croissants. We used the deli next door to purchase water and snacks. The location is excellent within a few blocks of Union Square where we waited for the City Siteseeing bus daily. The majority of the staff was helpful except for one women who kept harrassing me about my Alcatraz ticket purchase from a kiosk on Fishermans's Wharf . This is a great hotel for the money.

Dear BitterBob

Thank you for staying with us and leaving your constructive feedback, it is appreciated as it will help us improve guest service. I apologize for the discomforting interaction between you and my guest service agent. I am sure her behavoir was driven by the best intentions. As you noticed correctly our staff is very attentive, courteous and helpful. Recently we have updated our rooms with new double paned windows in order to protect our guest's sleep from outside noise. We hope to see you among our guests in the future to be able to enjoy our newest renovations.

We wish you the best, and look forward to see you again at the Mystic Hotel.
