EXACTLY what we wanted - quaint hotel with a very kind staff. Amazing location. Go for the package deal if you can and get the free parking in the garage across the street as well as the dinner in the restaurant - EXQUISITE french food.
We had a front room with a window - sound was not any problem at all; they have double-paned glass that blocks out almost all noise.

Room Tip: I think some of the rooms have windows that are only about 4 feet away from the building next door...

I will always stay here when in S.F. It's centrally located, quite clean and includes an amazing American-style breakfast. Staff is very friendly. It has that small EU-hotel feel. Very comfy.

Room Tip: We were on the side of the hotel, so there was no street noise (she said it was the "alley"...

We booked our room at the Cornell Hotel de France because the other hotels we stay at while in SF were all sold out due to a convention and the US Open. We were pleasantly surprised by how comfortable the rooms were and the hotel is in a great location. The hotel is a couple blocks from Union Square. The owners and manager were always there to help you with anything. There is free WiFi and breakfast is included with the room. Being that most hotels when the breakfast is included it is usually a continental breakfast with lots of carbs and no nutrients. The Cornell Hotel which is owned by a French couple serves an American breakfast with juice, eggs, toast, hash browns & coffee. Or you could have hot and cold cereal or waffles. The manager takes your breakfast order and serve you the food. Coffee is constantly being served. It was a nice surprise and we praise the owners for making our stay a little special. We had a car and there is a parking garage across the street. There is a discount rate because you are staying at the Cornell Hotel. The parking cost $25 per day with in and out privileges. It was really nice staying at the Cornell and now we have a new hotel to stay at when we come to SF.

My husband and I traveled with my parents for a weeks vacation in San Francisco. We were looking for a good location without the $an Franci$co price tag. We found it and would definitely stay at this quaint boutique hotel again.

We stayed at another hotel a couple years ago in the same location and price range which was tiny, not so clean and excessively noisy. The Cornell Hotel de France is right on the cable car line yet surprisingly quiet. Our rooms weren’t very large, but were comfortable. The hotel has a European feel to it with rustic furnishings and an antique gated elevator.

The hotel offers breakfast every morning with coffee and juice and a choice of eggs, bacon, toast and hash browns or French toast. The eggs and bacon were good but the French toast was my favorite. Breakfast was always served by cheerful and efficient staff. All of the hotel staff seemed focused on making our stay as smooth and comfortable as possible. Any time we needed anything, they were responsive, courteous, friendly and accommodating. We had a problem with the parking garage across the street which the manager of the hotel resolved quickly without hassel. I asked the cleaning staff to skip one of our daily cleanings and she stopped what she was doing to exchange our towels and clear out our trash.

Our last night in San Francisco we ate at the the hotel restaurant. We had a great French meal (orange souffle was amazing), exceptional service, and even a visit from the owner of the restaurant who was dining there with his wife. We're not VIP's by any means yet were treated as if our hotel stay really mattered.

What this hotel lacks in modern amenities and high end features, it makes up for in customer service and warm, sincere hospitality.

We loved it. The dining room was closed for renovation but the breakfast room was absolutely gorgeous. We will definitely go back there on our trip next year. Clean, quiet, up-to-date but not overly modern. LOVED IT! And:great breakfast!

I've always stayed in the larger, well-known hotels in San Francisco, but I thought I'd try something more unique on my last visit. I was very pleased with the Cornell Hotel de France. The rooms are small, but I knew that going in...it has a very European feel and charm about it. The location is excellent, although don't count on getting on the cable car at the stop around the corner...it's always full!

The staff at the hotel was great...they even picked up my laundry at the cleaners when I got stuck on the other side of the bay and couldn't make it back before closing. They went above and beyond.

I only have great things to say about my experience. I will definitely stay there again.

This is a small, charming, conveniently located hotel in the heart of San Francisco, which is authentically French. The rooms are small, as in France, but clean and charmingly appointed. Despite its location near Union Square, the hotel is quiet and peaceful, and the atmosphere is informal yet genteel. The Cornell offers a wonderful full, hot breakfast, just as most European hotels do, and NOT at a breakfast bar, as in most American hotels of comparable price, but in their wonderful restaurant, which is so beautifully and artistically decorated. What a pleasure! Even among the many hotels in San Francisco, the Cornell is unique. Don't miss it!
