Stayed at the Hotel Drisco for 5 nights in early September, 2012 and I can't say enough good things about the hotel and its staff. Shared a junior suite with a friend I was traveling it. We had a separate sitting area with a comfortable queen bed that pulled out from the sofa. There were TVs in the large separate bedroom and the sitting area. The hotel also provided nice robes and slippers for both guests. The hotel is small - only about 48 rooms and had a lot of old world details that were retained since its construction in the early 1900's. There is a terrific gourmet continental breakfast that is included in the price of the room. This is served in the dining room and there are also many newspapers available for reading with your breakfast. They also deliver a copy of the San Francisco Chonicle to your room each morning. Another fabulous touch is the wine and cheese gathering in the same dining room from 5-7pm each night. What a nice way to relax before venturing out for dinner. I liked the fact the the hotel was located in the lovely residential and exclusive area of Pacific Heights. We had gorgeous views of downtown San Francisco and the Bay including the Golden Gate Bridge from our room. I really liked being in a place this size and located in a gorgeous residential neighborhood. I almost felt like I was staying at someone's grand house instead of a hotel. After visiting the Fairmont for afternoon tea, it made me really glad that I selected the Drisco as my San Francisco base for this trip. The staff could not be nicer. Bob, the desk manager was super helpful and gave lots of good advice about things to see, where to eat and what buses to take..The hotel also provided complimentary rides into Union Square in the AM by pre-arrangement. They also had a driver to and from the airport for an additional charge which took the hassle of getting to and from the airport. One guest asked me how I found this hotel and was almost annoyed that e were there. He said he has been coming there for 6 years and now has trouble getting a reservation when he wants one as it has been "discovered". If you are looking for a place that's elegant, well managed with excellent amenities and you like the feel of a country house hotel from England, this place is a very close U.S. version. Truly, a real hidden gem!
