This was my first stay at a Joie de Vivre hotel and it exceeded expectations-- I definitely can't wait to try out their other properties. Joie de Vivre is particularly known for their funky, design-centered boutique hotels that emphasize a personalized touch to service, and I was happy to see that the Galleria Park lived up to the JDV name. Unlike pretty much any other hotel, the lobby and public spaces at the Galleria Park are beautifully designed, but the design does not stop when you enter your room, as the room was just as smartly designed with beautiful artwork, nice color palette, and a small but nicely renovated bathroom. I appreciate when a hotel actually treats us like adults and doesn't try to lure you in with a great lobby but then cut corners with a bland cookie-cutter room, so I think this says a lot about the positive value system that Joie de Vivre operates by.

We asked for a high floor in our reservation request and the Galleria Park delivered-- we got a great room on the 8th (top) floor and we slept soundly, as there was hardly any noise. The Wi-Fi signal in our room was strong and fast, definitely better than the average hotel Wi-Fi.

Tip: the reservations people send you a welcome e-mail a week before you arrive, and they invite you to e-mail them and introduce yourself. Try it out, it really works! You just might be surprised at what the Front Desk does with this info, as I was :-)

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a higher floor. Our room (#821) was on the 8th floor facing Sutter Street, and th...

Overall I had a great experience. It was comfortable and nice to come back to each day. The pros:
- Beautifully decorated
- Friendly staff
- Comfortable - the bed was comfortable and the linens and towels were all very nice
- Clean

The cons:
- There was no bathtub in my room, and the shower was tiny.
- Noisy. The first night there was construction going on next door from 10pm on. The second night I woke up because a car alarm was going off for a long time in the middle of the night.

The hotel has free wi-fi that you login into every 24 hours, but they also have a pay option (I'm not sure why), so make sure you choose the free option every day and not unnecessarily pay like I did.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room - away from the street.

This hotel is located in a great place in San Fran, can't fault that. The lobby is small but nicely decorated and all the staff are really nice and friendly. I like the wine hour, which is a very nice touch, especially as the mini bar is VERY expensive! However, I was a little disappointed with the room itself. It was very small for two people and not a great deal of thought had really gone into luggage storage and cupboard/drawer space for two people. Space was very limited. There were hardly any hangers in the cupboard either. The bathroom was minimalist and very modern - recently re-furbed I think, unlike our room. It was very nice and spacious in the bathroom, nice big shower, but there were not many places to put things, eg when using hairdryers etc. Had to use the sink and open sink drawers for balancing that and make up on whilst styling and grooming. Very nice that there is free wi-fi. Could do with more lighting in the room really as it was very dark. Had to close the blinds a lot otherwise we could be seen from the other side of the building. Our room faced inwards so not a good view at all. Cleaning was good though and cleaners were polite and friendly. The bed was a bit small but still comfy, although I'm not a fan of blankets and sheets, which get in a big mess during the night. The banging room doors and cleaners in the corridor in the mornings could be quite loud so got woken up quite often - and the fire alarm went off during the day too, which was a false alarm. Pretty inconvenient and not much apology. All in all though, it was a very friendly place so would still recommend it if on a budget. Still quite good value.

Room Tip: Facing the road may be a better view and brighter but may be more noisy from traffic.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here in May 2013. Close to Union Square with the travel links(bus and trams) also close to Chinatown. Room was small but very comfortable. Staff very helpful. Wine hour was very well received.

My wife and I spent two weekend nights at this downtown hotel which served as the home base for a wedding. The hotel is nice enough, with smallish rooms that were very clean. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. The staff was proficient and professional, but not overly friendly. I was turned off immediately by the towels. While the quality was excellent, apparently the management wants you to know that these towels are property of the hotel and you could tell this by the initials of the hotel marked on the border by a Sharpie. This is the type of thing I would expect in a one-star property. The bathroom was also small with a large sink. Unfortunately there is little shelf space to accommodate things like toiletries.

The lobby was comfortable, but I think it's time to either recover or at least professionally clean the armrests on the upholstered chairs.

Coffee is provided from 5AM to 10AM in a location that is a bit awkward. We had breakfast provided by the groom's parents on Sunday, the day of our checkout, in a private meeting room. The food was exceptionally good. Kudos to the banquet manager.
