“Great rooms, gorgeous decor, and wine tasting”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

A boutique hotel in its truest sense. This was a lovely start to our road trip, and three nights was perfect. the location was nice, and a short walk to the nearest metro or cable car/tram stop.
Alex welcomed us warmly and all staff thereafter were professional and courteous.

We didn't do breakfast, but there are plenty of coffee shops and diners in the area, you won't be short of places to eat. Also close by is the tram stop, just a couple of blocks away, but travel early morning, mid-morning and later becomes a problem as many trams are full from people loading from further down the line, and few people get off in this vicinity. Otherwise, we had few problems. I also recommend the 1 or 3 day Muni pass, available at any Walgreens, and enables unlimited trips on the trams, an amazing experience for my family, we didin't travel any other way. The Muni pass however does not get you to the airport and back, that's a small charge of just under $3. The major shops are within walking distance, but Lombard St and Pier 39 are much further away.

The toiletries are lovely and the bedding and bed are high quality. The coffee making facility in the room is very classy. The aircon is very quiet and the bathroom was a lovely walk in shower.
My only complaint is not about the hotel, but rather the building itself is poorly insulated (sound). Regular smashing and crashing of metal bins seem to occur almost every two hours throughout the night, but thankfully my childern slept through, my wife and I struggled to get a night's sleep for the whole stay.
Extra services include a gym, and the wine tasting in early evenings. Very civilised, and smart casual dress is appropriate for the wine tasting, but I was in shorts and sneakers and the staff were equally welcoming.

Overall, lovely hotel, and would go again. Thanks to the staff, and a lovely start to our holiday, a firm favourite of ours. Thank you.

Room Tip: Away from the road, I requested a quiet room, but didn't help.

Green Features: no issues regarding the environment, but recommend re using towls and bedding to get a bottle water

This was the 2nd part of a California vacation and I couldn't have been more pleased. I landed this hotel in April on Hotwire at a very reasonable rate for mid-summer -- was very excited to try it out. After arriving from an afternoon of travel complications, Jake got me checked into a decently higher floor quiet room (the "21s" have a street view and the entrance is in the stairwell).

Very relaxing stay at a great location, comfy room with a/c working awesome in mid-summer. Nice amenities combined with a nice room aura/decor (love the high ceilings as they make a smaller room feel bigger). Also, the staff couldn't have been more genuinely nice and helpful -- Jake at the front desk went out of his way to accommodate and I noticed several other staff members do the same (very impressed when staff knows a specific bus route to get to an attraction vs. "call a cab").

If you want a smaller boutique hotel with great comfort, great staff, great location, this is the hotel to stay at in San Francisco!

We travel at least 12 times a year, so we stay in a lot of hotels. From the moment we checked in, the staff could not have been nicer or more professional. Everyone you run in to is so pleasant, including housekeeping. The wine hour is very nice as well and the lobby is beautiful. If you have quick questions you can text front deck & they respond immediately. The location is superb. After 2 nights we asked to change rooms and they did it in a sec. Stay here - you will not be disappointed.

Stayed here for work while she was in San Fran for business. Location is good, 5 minute walk from Market St in the financial district (Macys and other stores very close).

Lobby and layout is nice. Rooms are good size (didn't have much of a view on the non-Suttor St side) and bathrooms were fine. TV selection was good.

Very small gym (a very small room) , and it would only fit 2-3 people! I was lucky to be the only one using it. I don't know if they had any other good facilities. I would have preferred a pool, spa etc as well.

Customer service was ok without them being too fantastic. However, all the concierges were very good.

Room Tip: Suttor St Side

Thank you for taking the time to post a review on Tripadvisor.

It's wonderful to hear that overall, you enjoyed your stay and our hotel. The fitness studio is indeed small as we are limited with space being a historical building. We have affiliation with a full size gym a block away from the hotel that you could have utilized. I'm sorry that this was not offered to you as an option.

We hope to see you again soon the next time your travels take you back to San Francisco.

Sincerely,

James Lim

Stayed 4 nights here. We were upgraded to a suite which was huge and worked out great as we had our teen age son with us. We used the main bedroom, whilst my son was on a fold out couch in the lounge, with the bathroom between. The room was nicely decorated and the staff were all very friendly. The hotel is situated close to everything we needed. There isn't breakfast served, however there are plenty of places super close to get any of your meals. Loved our stay!

We had two rooms, one with two double beds, and one with a king. The doubles was an exterior room with no view, while the king was an interior room with windows to a courtyard, so no big difference there. That said, the king room was tiny, perhaps suitable for one but too small for two, so the $10 premium for the double made it much better value as it was a much larger room. The lobby was pretty, as was the room decor, but the bathrooms were tiny and it felt like an old hotel with new wallpaper. On the plus side, it was well located fairly near Union Square and beside a great coffee shop.

Room Tip: The King rooms are tiny, go for the double instead.

Location is great.
We thought the rates and the extra parking fees were high, especially for the value.
Our room was very small and was an inside room so there was no view except of other inside windows and a roof. It was quiet though and the bed was fine. It was hard to get the room dark enough at night. The paint colors and wallpaper were lovely. The carpet wasn't.
Free wifi was a plus.
There are good places to eat very near the hotel.
The hotel offered coffee in the morning and a wine hour at night.
There is a workout room but it's tiny- ok for one person.
This hotel was ok. There wasn't anything to point out that was outstanding or unusual, especially for the price we paid. It was adequate and again, location is good.

Room Tip: Inside rooms are fairly quiet but there is no outside view. We can only judge from our room and it w...
