“Thoroughly enjoyed our stay”
Reviewed 8 August 2014

We spent two nights at the Grand Hyatt in San Francisco at Union Station. Great location, beautiful accommodations and excellent staff. The concierge was outstanding and suggested terrific tours and restaurants.

The Grand Hyatt is pretty well located for all the things you may want to do while in the big city. It is easily accessed from SFO via the BART, however take the elevator up to Powell street rather than the stairs when lugging a 53lb suitcase. The Grand Hyatt has gone through an make over recently and are adopting the "Personal" check in. No more long reception bar. Frankly, when we arrived they were swamped and unfortunately did not have enough "Personal Check In Folks" to assist us. However, they did get it going and we were checked in and up to our room. We requested the highest floor possible, but only ended up on the 23rd floor. Even so, our Bay View was awesome.

We decided to bounce downstairs to the OneUp Lounge and partake of a beverage and a quick munchie.. drinks were fine, but the food was average at best. On the food front, we did get a pizza via room service which was actually pretty decent, albeit $36 bucks. When we ordered a pizza delivered from Uncle Vitos down the street, it was less expensive, but no where near as tasty as our room service pie. We stopped in the lobby a couple of times for breakfast sammys and Starbucks which were quite good as well.

Our rooms were always fresh and clean when we returned to them after a long day of sight seeing and partying. We got some robes and a razor since I had forgotten mine delivered to our room at no charge. The lobby was a nice area to sit back and share a bottle of wine with our friends, with very interesting art pieces through out. What was interesting in our room was the sink in the bathroom. Very retro modern and was not as functional as a normal sink. We seemed to always sloosh water around the sink area

The staff all were friendly enough and the door man who looked like a walking fridge was always very helpful and quick with a hello every time we left and came back. He was one big guy!

Room Tip: As for a high floor to stay away from the noise of construction

Ok, it's not the most interesting looking hotel - fairly corporate as expected, but it's in a great location and our rooms had brilliant views. There was a mix up to begin with as I'd requested two connecting rooms or at least near to each other for our children aged 16 and 11. When we arrived after a long flight we were told the rooms were two floors apart! Eventually we were allocated rooms on the same floor, although not as close as we would like. Fortunately the rooms were good - clean, spacious and with great views. It's worth paying a bit extra for a good view - ours was a bay view, the other was a city view but both were excellent. The rest of our three night stay was excellent. We ate in the hotel on our last night and it was good and not overpriced. Location is great for shops and easy to get cab or cable car. We also did a lot of walking plus big bus tour to Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz - both excellent. Must book Alcatraz in advance in the summer. Also recommend Slanted Door and Boudins restaurants.

Room Tip: Higher floors have great views

Recently stayed here on a business trip and very pleasantly surprised by how modern the hotel rooms are, they look recently updated. Nice location near Union Square. Check in was smooth and staff was very pleasant and helpful. Room service food quickly delivered and was good quality. Bar area was nice but a bit tame and quiet so not great for nightlife; other down side is they seemed to seat overflow from the restaurant in the bar, including with young children, even later at night.

My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon. Had an amazing time and the rooms were absolutely gorgeous. Will absolutely stay here again if we return to San Fran. Room Tip request a room on a higher floor.

Union Square is one of the better locations for visiting San Francisco, and the Grand Hyatt is situated right in the middle near shopping, transit and the famed cable cars. However, the room was not overly "grand" but rather a bit on the small side - which goes double for the bathroom. Would consider staying here again if I knew the room would be larger

We had some credit at the Hyatt so we were able to use it for a July 2014 weekend. Fortunately for us, we were upgraded to the most beautiful suite. It was huge with a massive dining table, living room and kitchenette. There were two baths and separate king size bed. We definitely loved it since we were traveling with a young child. We also had access to the concierge floor where there was a good breakfast, cold drinks, heavy appetizers and the female staff was very friendly and kind to our daughter. I thought the workout room was kinda small but my husband used it. We also loved the free taffy and popcorn in the lobby. My two minor complaints was the bed was not as comfortable as I am use to, and housekeeping wasn't all that stellar. I don't like to criticize them because they have the worst job, but I expected a bit better since we were in the suite. I think they must have been rushing because they didn't finishing making the bed properly and didn't clean until very late in the afternoon.

Room Tip: Can't go wrong with the 14th floor suite.
