First the good things. Location. This hotel is located a block inside the Chinatown gate. This was a great location, pretty central to attractions. We do a lot of walking when exploring a city, so it was nice to be able to walk to Union Square, Little Italy and transportation. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. Before we arrived, we called and asked for a quite room and was given one on the backside of the building. The window was frosted, so there was no view to see. As for the room we had. We were not very impressed. It was clean, but that was the only good thing. The room was very small and dated. There was only a double bed, a very small desk and chair. We stayed for 4 nights and had to live out of our suitcases since there weren't any drawers to put our clothes in. No central air, the window is your air-conditioning. For the most part this wasn't a problem the room was cool enough. The bathroom was big enough, but the shower was tiny. Ladies, it's not easy to shave your legs when you have to twist into a pretzel to make it happen. The floor was clean I'm sure, but it was so old that I didn't feel comfortable walking on it without shoes on. The room was quiet from street noise, but inside noise was quite annoying. The wall between us and another room was so thin I could hear the other couple talking. I couldn't make out was said, but it was quite loud. We had a kid upstairs that liked to run around the room and jump off the bed. That's not the hotels fault I know, but it would have probably been less noisy at a newer hotel. I have read that they do have some updated rooms, so I would ask for one of them if booking this hotel. If we could get an updated room, we would consider this hotel again for the price and location.

The location is great, right at the entrance of Chinatown, a few minutes walk from the center and major public transportation. Wish there was a breakfast included and fridge in the room, but except that, it is really great value for the price we paid.

We had a quiet room (609) with good wifi and excellent shower. There is no on- site restaurant but plenty of eating choices nearby. It was easy to get to Union Square, the tram, buses and Chinatown is on the doorstep. The staff were knowledgeable and helpful. We walked there from Montgomerie St station, but it was quite a hike with suitcases. Better to get a shared van from the airport.

The good-side - The room (301) was clean, basic with a nice shower. Compared to the majority of SF hotels, this seemed to be better value for money at the time of booking. The downside - very noisy, it's not only the noise from the street (traffic) but internally also, kids running up and down the stairs every morning (730am), other guests slamming doors, had to keep the bathroom door shut due to noise from other bathrooms coming through and to top it off, the lift had an alarm that goes off and remains on when it stops on your floor! Combined with the street traffic, this is a very noisy place to stay!! We did a lot of walking this trip and needed a good sleep therefore, we could have done with a little more peace throughout the night and early morning. Staff didn't really seem to care about the noise level, yes there's a notice up reminding guests not to slam doors but there really needs to be something fitted to the doors themselves to prevent the slams. Staff really need to be more proactive in resolving this. Also, by 8.30/9.00am cleaners were knocking on doors and letting themselves in while we were in bed!, while I realize they need to do they're job, 'come on', we're on vacation and I personally don't like opening my eyes to finding myself looking at a stranger holding cleaning products. You get what you pay for, and at this hotel, that's not much

You know because it's san fran it's probably hard to find anywhere cheap but I think next time I will just pay more for elsewhere.

Rooms are small you literally don't know small till you are there. Small is exaggeration. Rooms are pretty basic, walls are paper. You can hear everyone showering from each room and above. The elevator hasn't had a safety pass since 2013. Was a little paranoid with this because it jumps while the doors open. We nearly poo'd ourselves thinking it was dropping when we first stepped out. Unfortunately it is the only way to get up to the rooms. Glasses provided for brushing teeth unfortunately for us both had hair in them. One's probably just overlooked but two probably means they haven't been moved or used/washed for awhile. Apple stickers stuck around the room from previous guests, staff obviously too lazy to just pull them off. We left a garbage bag just outside the door since we didn't want our room supposedly cleaned, the cleaner did the vacuuming outside our room along with cleaning the room directly opposite but decided not to take our garbage bag. It was left in the hallway till the next day. Bit sad. Beds are awful, we ending up sleeping with our heads at the end because its on a slant, atleast this way our heads were higher than our feet this way.

Good for location for us. We didn't mind walking anywhere. Not far to either AT&T park for any baseball games and pier 33/39. Both about 20/25mins walk. Walk past the bottom of lombard street (whindy road) on the way to pier 33.

Heaps of places to eat not just asian too so you have heaps of choices. Laundromat up the road too. Trams are just outside but depends if you can get on.

Probably won't be back here again though. Rooms make you a bit depressed when you get back.

we have stayed at this hotel numerous times , due to the fact that its always the best price in frisco no matter what time of year you go, sometimes when the website says its booked full you need to call directly because they will usually have rooms , and the location is right in the middle of Chinatown, so you are in walking distance to everything, if you don't mind walking that is,

the front desk is always very friendly, never had a problem with check in, they have ice and soda in lobby, ice costs .25cents and you don't get much so bring quarters, and the soda machine only has sodas and no water, so bring your own waters,

this hotel is old, all of the rooms we stayed in have a different smell, some worse than others , the rooms have carpet, which I think all needs to be ripped out and replaced with tile , or wood, the hotel is just too old to have carpet , the smells seem to linger, beds are not so comfy and pillows are flat, these are just a few things that you should prepare for so you know ahead of time what to expect, the bathrooms are ok, kinda small, not a lot of room to put toiletries, so stuff keeps falling off the little self in there, and there is no shower caddy in shower, so there is nowhere to put your shower stuff except on the floor of shower,

this last time we stayed in room 407, which I almost wanted to cry, its a double bed room , which was the last in the hotel, so I figured it wasn't going to be good anyways, but there was 1 window , which only was able to open 3 in. because the window was on the fire escape, which another words you have no view, except the fire escape and the other peoples windows, with the same view as you, the smell in this room was horrible due to lack of air, we shut the window when we left the room just in case of critters or something, so it took some time to air it out when we got to the room at night, the walls are thin, bring earplugs, and the light that shines through the door is pretty bright, so these are things that I figured are most important that you should know when booking this hotel, will I stay here again? yes of course , now I think I have stayed in every room type , so now I know what to prepare for everytime, as I hope everyone that reads this does too, you might even want to bring a small fan for a bit of circulation in case you get a not so good room with airflow. hope this helps

Room Tip: when booking a room ask if it has a street view , no view, or fire escape view, this will prepare yo...
