We are a family of 4. My husband and I and my two boys aged 14 and 11. Our travel agent in Australia recommend this hotel so we decided to stay here.
Before we arrived we noticed some scam transactions on our credit card so we called our bank in Australia and got the card canceled. We were told that another card would be delivered to us at The Bank of America. This made us upset and very stressed but I suppose things happen so you just keep going.
When we arrived at this hotel we told the girl at the front desk her name was Genieva ( I think that is how you spell it) what had happened. She said in order to check in we needed a credit card. I again told her what had happened and how we don't have one. It was Saturday when we checked in and the Bank of America had closed by the time we arrived in San Fran and the bank was closed on Sunday.
At check in we were made to feel as if we were criminals. She said we are putting a lock on the phone in your room and our cards to get into our room would only be active for 1day because we had no credit card. So everyday when we exited our room we were locked out and had to go to the front desk to reactive our cards.
We have never never been made to feel so uncomfortable in all our years of travel. We have stayed in lots of hotels around the world and the service and the way we were treated was disgraceful. I will spread the word and tell everyone about the way we were treated world wide.
The management at The Handerley hotel and staff you are an absolute disgrace.

We were put on level 8 the room was disgusting and old and the elevator on our last night was not working. So we had to walk up and down these stairs all day...Dale at the concierge desk needs to look at people when they are speaking to him. Rude rude rude.

Will never ever ever recommend this hotel to anyone. Mr Handerly you should be ashamed of yourself. If I could give you a 0 I would.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else

Stayed here as the last stop on our LA, Las Vegas & San Francisco holiday and i have to say this hotel was the best of all three ! Helpful friendly staff, great location & the restaurant "Daily Grill" was impeccable. Very happy !

Myself and my husband spent five nights in this Hotel. We booked a historic room and were very pleased with it. It was spacious, clean and tidy. We spent a couple of mornings by the pool before going out and we thoroughly enjoyed that too. The pool area is beautifully presented and very peaceful. We booked a sauna one night and again it was very enjoyable. The whole place is kept spotless. We had vouchers for the Daily Grill where we ate breakfast every day. The food was delicious and the staff are very helpful and friendly. We were served by different people each day but every single one was pleasant and cheery, We love San Francisco and hope to return next year. If we do, we will definitely be staying here again.

Me and my boyfriend recently (June) stayed at the handlery for 5 nights. Rooms are slightly on the small side but they have everything you need. The staff are really helpful and friendly. It's in a great location, in the middle of everything. If your planning a trip to San Francisco then definitely pack a jacket and warm clothing as It gets pretty windy and cold. Also pack some comfy shoes as you do a lot of walking up and down hills! Fantastic city!

Room Tip: Choose a room away from the street as it can get pretty noisy.

We enjoyed 4 nights at the Handlery for part of our USA road trip honeymoon. The handlery is ideally located on Union Square and great location for all the sights, shops, bars, etc.
Our request for a high floor, city view room was met and we were over the moon to receive a bottle of sparkling wine in the room on arrival to celebrate our honeymoon.
The city view rooms can be a bit noisy so i would recommend requesting a pool view if that would be a problem but the view and balcony was a delight for us - we sat there each morning eating out breakfast, Thank you Handlery for making the first stop on our trip a great one!!
