“Fabulous views, lovely staff -- great value!”
Reviewed 22 October 2013

As a former Bay Area resident, I've stayed here many times when visiting family and friends. But my last trip (October) was the best. Each time I enter a room, I'm reminded again that the views of SF Bay and the Bay Bridge are jaw-dropping -- you feel as though you could step out your window and into the water below. Yes, the rooms are tiny -- but who needs extra space when you can lie in bed and watch the nighttime light show on the bridge?

The staff are friendly, gracious, and genuinely helpful -- they really try to make the atmosphere as welcoming as possible. The lobby is comfortable and the wi-fi signal is strong. There's a very relaxed and informal vibe about the place, though the service is still first-rate. And the location is perfect, especially if you like food, people watching, walking, cable cars, or any of the other things that make SF great. It's a short, pleasant walk to the Ferry Building (try Blue Bottle coffee and an Acme cheese roll for breakfast), or to the cable car stop at the foot of Market St., or the farmers' market on Saturdays. And there's a nearby park for dog walking. With those views -- Who could ask for more?

Room Tip: Definitely get a bay view room! And ask for a high floor if you like a quiet room.

Green Features: While I appreciate the hotel's energy efficient practices, it would make a lot more sense if the windows were easier to open. As it was, the temperature setting on the a/c meant I needed to have the windows open at all times to cool things off, and that was very hard to do

We stayed here on the last night of our honeymoon, and really wish we could have been here longer based on how well they took care of us. From the moment we checked in everyone was very friendly. They had upgraded our room to a beautiful view of the Bay Bridge. When we got in the room they had a bottle of champagne, an AMAZING red velvet cupcake, and a box of chocolates waiting on us to help us celebrate. They also called up to the room to make sure everything was all good. Great people!

The location is awesome, so easy to get to from BART, and lots of cool stuff close by. We had sushi next door and it was fantastic.

Have stayed at another Kimpton, the bikes look nicer at this one, although we didn't get a chance to use them.

Only drawback was the room wasn't too big. We didn't care at all, but if your picky about those things good to know.

Overall a great stay, would go back here in a heartbeat. Sign up for their reward programs and you also get a credit to the minibar, which is cool.

Thanks guys!

After reading reviews & wanting to visit my hometown & see the Bay Bridge Lights Project, we booked 4 nights at this beautiful boutique hotel, staying in a 6th floor king view room. Yes, the rooms are NYC small but you quickly learn it's the perfect space for two. We left our blinds up the entire time night & day soaking in the spectacular view. Big comfy bed; great working desk; plenty of outlets: amazing Wifi; efficient bathroom; walking distance from everything you need to enjoy the Embarcadero & Wharf. We had amazing weather & opened our windows. Sure some street noise but that's part of the pulse of The City. Then Ozumo right next door, Perry's & Boulevard on the corner. Special thanks to the friendly & efficient staff who made us feel at home. Great stay!

Room Tip: Bay view rooms are the best

Stayed here 4 nights after reading previous reviews. The staff treated us wonderfully, helping us celebrate our ten year anniversary. Was a little worried about noise but the room was located at the back and was very quiet. The location was fabulous, at the end of the F trolley route, right on the Embarcadero. Ate a special Sunday 12 course meal in the Izakaya lounge next door at Ozumos and was extremely happy with it.

Green Features: Used the recycle bin provided in the room and was glad to have it.

When we arrived I was a little taken aback by the size of the room. It was compact compared to other hotels I've stayed at. I soon realized that it had plenty of space and everything that we needed. The hotel staff is amazing; the perks like happy hour, coffee, cookies in the beautiful lobby were a big plus; and the location can't be beat. It's close the the amazing street cars of the f-line, the hop on hop off tour and the ferry building. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone.

Stayed here 4 nights after reading previous reviews. Was a little worried about the size of the rooms so I got the queen size room with the Bay view and I was not disappointed. The room did not feel tiny was clean, modern, had a spectacular view of the bay and was perfectly comfortable for the 2 of us. All the staff ie housekeeping, front desk and the concierge was friendly and excellent service throughout our stay. We also loved the extra touches like flavoured water and apples in the lobby, coffee and tea in the mornings, and delicious chocolate chip cookies every night at 9 pm. Great location right on the Embarcadero and across the street from ferry building which has a huge farmers market on Saturday mornings and where you can catch a ferry to Sausalito. Highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again.

My first visit here was horrible or maybe I was just being a curmudgeon but I was delighted to say that opinion my has changed. Quiet room (away from the YMCA b-ball court) and view and service spectacular. My partner loves this place and I am beginning to see why. I noticed the little things: tiny LED light on bathroom switch (no fumbling at night), handy power sockets on top of nightstand and work table (no reaching behind furniture), great quality bed sheets (where do they get these - they are that good!), etc. if I was to ding them, it would be for the air freshener they use (why do these places think smelling like Pottery Barn is a plus). Overall, I enjoyed my stay.

Room Tip: again, try to stay away from the YMCA side, you can hear the games being played on the b-ball court...
