“Nice hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 May 2014 via mobile

We stayed here in September last year as part of a group tour.

The hotel was very nice and clean, with comfy beds and a good view from the room.

The hotel was about a 15/ 20 min walk from fishermans wharf, but a cable car stop is about a 2 minute walk around the corner!

If I came to San Francisco again I would like to stay somewhere more central, but I wouldn't be disappointed to stay at this hotel again it was very nice!

Tip - the ladies in the shop on the ground floor are very helpful and no everything about the local transport. They can also sell you tickets for transport/attractions.

We booked this as our base for a three night stay in San Francisco. Not knowing the city we booked this based on other reviews. The hotel itself is clean, modern and the staff very helpful and friendly. Free wifi in your room is also a welcome bonus and on site parking is available too. Our only gripe was the location. Within five minutes of leaving the hotel we had seen four tramps/drug addicts, people arguing and shouting and general dodgy behaviour from passers by. A later cab ride and chat with a driver revealed the hotel is only one block from the start of the dodgy area of town. That said we did not experienced any trouble during our stay but it could be a little unnerving as we walked the 3 blocks down to Union Square. As long as you keep aware, keep to yourself and walk fast, then you'll be fine!

Clean, inviting guest rooms, free Wi-Fi, and helpful, friendly staff support is Holiday Inn Civic Center’s specialty and we are delighted they were a positive aspect of your stay. We regret if the neighborhood did not meet your expectations. Being in the heart of a highly-populated urban city, San Francisco possesses a diverse community. As safety is always a first priority for our hotel, we do implement security measures to reassure guests with confidence and comfort. Thank you for giving Holiday Inn San Francisco Civic Center the opportunity to welcome you to our great city and we hope you will keep our hotel in mind for future accommodations.

The room is spacious, but it has a weird nagging smell. The cleaning has some faults, such as dust in the furniture and the bed sheets had some body hair. It's a quiet hotel and the staff is nice.
The hotel is locaded in a bad site of the city because it has a lot of homeless, junkies, the sreets smell bad and I often see drug dealers doing their business.

The cleanliness of our establishment is usually something our guests speak highly of, but we regret if there was a concern with your room. We have shared your comment about the smell with Housekeeping and will do our best to resolve the concern timely and efficiently. Being in the heart of a highly-populated urban city, we are located in a diverse community. As safety is always a first priority for our hotel, we do implement security measures to reassure guests with confidence and comfort. Our Mid-Market area is undergoing a major transformation with the new exciting companies, arts groups, restaurants and housing arriving. We hope to have another opportunity to demonstrate to you our commitment to guest satisfaction.

It was my first trip tp San Francisco to spend some days before I reach Napa, I have to say that I have no complains with the hotel. Clean, nice staff and the possibility to have my check-in sooner thatn the planned.

But, here the situation, for a tourist it is not that nice located. You have to walk 3-4 squares to reach the Union Square area, and these Market St. blocks are full of homeless people, so It becomes a little shady when coming back to the hotel in the evening.

Room Tip: Keep that in Mind. HDI is business class. Not the best option to have a vacation on San Francisco.

Stayed here for 3 nights.
This feels like an old hotel, especially the toilets.
Hot water seems to run out after a few minutes, not sure why.
Internet is free but slow.
Located next to the BART station, so it's very convenient.

Holiday Inn San Francisco Civic Center is dismayed that your experience fell short of your expectations. We value your history with our hotel and your satisfaction is of utmost important to us. We truly want all of our guests to have an opportunity to enjoy our brand. Unfortunately as we upgraded our TV offerings we had several days with limited channels. We now have 44 TV channels available with high-definition programming. We apologize for letting you down during this transition. Our mid-Market area is undergoing a major transformation with exiting new companies, arts groups, restaurants and housing arriving. The new development across the street has completed a large dig which did create some unexpected noise. Regarding your check out, please contact our Guest Services Manager, David Camacho to ensure your additional points are taken care of. He may be reached at 415-626-6103 or david.camacho@ihg.com. Thank you for your feedback in our continuous efforts to learn from our guest experience. We hope for the opportunity to have you back with us and earn your loyalty once again.

Stayed for 3 nights. Currently undergoing renovation work on the front of the building which didn't really bother us, but worse was the building site across the road which started up, very loud, about 7am! The hotel even provided us with complimentary ear plugs!
We arrived late on the first night and needed to find some food (the restaurant downstairs was closed). The front desk recommended a little Market down the road. We also found a burger place nearby but it didn't feel very safe walking around this area late at night. A lot of homeless people and the homeless shelter on the next block down from the hotel.
The cable car is only a block away which takes you all the way to the Piers for $1.50 or $2 (can't remember).
The room has a safe, sitting area and a large comfy bed. Due to the building works going on in the vicinity though I wouldn't recommend it at this time.

Being that our hotel is in the heart of an urban neighborhood, we do have a very diverse community, but we regret that our location was not to your liking. I,ve kept coming back to this hotel for a number of years for its rooms and near-market location. I booked 2 rooms x 5 nights. Emailed in advance with platinum status with IHG. Took an age to check in.. the clerk struggled to retrieve our bookings. I got a king, my mate got a room with 2 doubles. TV had only 20 channels.. 10 offline, some in chinese and 4 in english. Rubbish really. The room was fine. My colleague moved to another room as he was woke up at 6am by the construction site across the street (clearly not the hotels issue but such a huge issue needs to be made 100% clear on the hotels IHG landing site). I checked out after 5 days feeling that this stay should have been so much better. I emailed the hotel after checkout and was offered 5000 points.. a room sets you back 35000 points per room per night... and they never even posted to my IHG account. I hate to say this but time for a change... the loyalty thing swings both ways and I'm not feeling the love here any more.

Room Tip: The building work across the street starts at 6 to 7 a.m... you've been told.
