“They don't seem to listen”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 July 2014 via mobile

I traveled here with my students (group of 27 people total) and the hotel has too many Indians and not enough chiefs- it's ok.. It's a holiday inn- but for the past 5 days we have reported a monstrous water puddle in the carpeted hallway between 2 of our 9 rooms and no one seems to care or try to clean it up.. One of the rooms had an Ac leak which soaked clothes and they offered a free movie and to launder the clothes- then they turned around and tried to bill us and argue about it. The restaurant was a bit of a rip off- for breakfast for our group they tried to charge us $25 per person for the breakfast buffet- and then made a "deal" for $12.95 per person.. But after my students with our non profit art school started to get their food- the manager came back who quoted me the original price- and said that she would charge us $25 for the 6 adult chaperones.. And the breakfast was $675! Needless to say we never returned to the restaurant.. So location is great- but eh..on management makes promises but little results (again 4 ft water puddle in carpet hallway has been there for the past 4 days).

This hotel was fine, the service was excellent. Rooms are a little dated, but the excellent location makes up for that. Pier 39 is only a short walk away. There are some great restaurants within walking distance & excellent transport too

It is a shame that because a place is busy everything else suffers. The booking was difficult as every time we called we got a different price and each time it was higher. We ended up staying there because we could not find anything else and then paid more than what we were originally quoted. The prices from Monday to Tuesday jumped $200, robbery. Shame on them I will never stay with them again. The people greeted us with a smile and were kind but you could tell they were just busy and we were a number maybe not everyone the woman who checked us out was very warm. At least that is the way I felt. The room was okay but for almost $400 I would say it was not so good actually a rip off. Pillows were very uncomfortable. We were there less than 12 hours and cut our trip short and headed to Monterey. A very unromantic room you just wanted to leave it. They should take some of the money they get for this room and try to make it more room and cozy. Heck hire me I can do a much better job.

Room Tip: not sure if they had a good room

Not the best or the worst hotel we've ever stayed in. It was nice that it was close to the warf, pier 39, Ghirardelli Square, and the cable car turn around, but as far as a hotel goes it was just ok. They have a resturant down in the lobby, but didn't have many options to eat for dinner. As guests of the hotel our kids ate free, so that was nice. We stayed on the 5th floor at the back of the hotel and there wasn't much of a view. The alley behind the hotel seemed the hotel seemed to be full of noisy people, and Wifi was SUPER slow also. I would go back if necessary, but there are probably better options around.

We checked in at 1:00am because our Amtrak train was delayed four hours.

The guy at the front desk (older gentleman) was polite, and prompt. We got our key and got to our room.

Our room was very clean and the beds comfortable. However we couldn't sleep because of a loud machine outside and a homeless man who sounded like he was coughing up his lung. (the room was facing an alley)

The next day we asked to move to another room. Again, the service was very good and friendly and we got a much nicer room facing the street which we could sleep great in!

The restaurant was good, but a little overpriced. Service was nice and our waitress was very sweet.

So, the hotel is nice but there are better options. It would definitely be worth it to spend a little bit more to get another hotel. But all in all it was pretty good!

Room Tip: There is a part of the hotel where all the rooms are facing an alley. Do NOT get these rooms. There...

Our family of four stayed at the Holiday Inn Fisherman's Wharf recently for one night on our road trip down the coast.

The pros: For the price, the location of this hotel really can't be beat. It is just around the corner from the Wharf, two blocks from Ghirardelli Square, and close to the trolleys/cable cars. It was nice to be able to easily and quickly walk everywhere we wanted to go. The staff is friendly and the place is very clean and updated.

The cons: First, this particular con is specific to our room location. We had a second story room overlooking the garbage dumpsters (alley). That in itself didn't bother me; we didn't really expect a good view and we wouldn't be in the room much anyway. Not a problem at all. Until the next morning when the first garbage truck came. At 6:00 a.m. I am not exaggerating when I say that we thought San Francisco was experiencing an earthquake. The noise and ground-shaking rumbling of the truck, combined with the screeching, banging and clanging of the dumpsters, was deafening. Luckily, it only lasted for about 5 minutes, so we were able to get back to sleep. Then the second garbage truck came less than an hour later, and we got to experience it all over again. Maybe this isn't a daily thing; maybe Wednesday morning is their weekly trash pick up day. I guess I should have been smart enough to put two and two together and realize that a garbage truck might come during our stay (at 6:00 a.m.), and requested another room. My bad. Don't make the same mistake: Be on the safe side (or the quiet side) and make sure you get a room far, far on the other side of the hotel from the dumpsters. If you like to sleep past 6:00 a.m. while on vacation, and if something akin to a nuclear bomb detonating outside your bedroom window wakes you, you will be glad you did.

Second, breakfast is not included. It seems that none of the hotels near the wharf offer breakfast included in the price. I guess they feel that it is an amenity that they just don't have to offer because the lack thereof will not impact their business in any way.

Third, the $40.00 per day parking fee. Unfortunately, space is at a premium in this area of San Francisco, and you will not escape parking fees. The good news is that their parking fee is only $40.00. I saw other hotels in the area with parking fees in the $50-$60 range. I still list it as a con because I had to pay $40.00 to park my tiny, compact, hybrid rental car.

Even with the cons listed, if I could ensure a room far, far away from the dumpsters (made an otherwise 4-star review a 3-star review), I would not hesitate to stay at this hotel again in the future because of it's location and relative value compared to similar hotels in the area.

Room Tip: Make sure your room is nowhere near the Dumpsters!

The hotel staff was friendly and accommodating. We arrived early and were able to check in without a hassle. We had a room in the main building; there are two buildings that make up this hotel. The room was clean and comfortable but the bathroom was a bit small with very little counter space. Free Wi-Fi and a refrigerator were plusses. The pool area is small. The location could not be better for San Francisco tourists, convenient to all attractions. Parking is a bit steep ($45 per day) so don’t take a car into the City unless you don’t absolutely need it. We used Airport Express (found on hotel site) for $30 roundtrip per person from SFO. Eating at the hotel is pricy but there are so many local options so you don’t have to. Overall, I would recommend this hotel and would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the main building on a high floor if you are looking for quiet.
