Completely inadequate internet for what is supposed to be a "conference center". I was actually kicked off the internet without my knowledge for supposedly using too much bandwidth (a video a colleague had sent me.) When I called the front desk to see why the wireless was down it took over 45 minutes to find someone who could figure out what was going on. Apparently anything more than basic e-mail is too much for their system. This was the first night. Once I got into bed I realized that the beds were old and uncomfortable.

The second night the toilet overflowed. A call to the front desk for assistance (I was trying to get ready for bed) lead to nothing for 15 minutes. Then the front desk called me back to see if everything was alright. No---I still had toilet water all over the floor and a non-functional toilet. Oh, he would talk to housekeeping. Uh, thanks. When housekeeping showed up 10 minutes later they had brought a cot. Uh, not the problem. Needless to say another lost night of sleep.

The location is not bad if you're with your family, but very touristy for a single adult. I decided to stay here because I got a deal and wish I had paid a little more to be elsewhere. I would certainly not advise anyone to stay here.

From the time you check in you are made to fill 2nd. class. It starts out when you check in . things seem fine untill you find out that the hotel you will be staying in is 2 blocks away and the parking[ that you pay $40.00 for] is even farther than that. So you grab your bags and lug them down the streets of San Francisco . No one offers to help you they just throw you a map and go for it. It just went down hill from there. This chain has gotten to the place of no customer service what so ever. Pick anything else, you will be happier.

Only plus point is location if you're first timers to SF like us as cable car is close also piers etc. We had priority status but although arriving at 2pm had to wait 2 hours for room and then 20 mins as cleaning lady was in room -so much for"fast check in".Breakfast costs extra, no internet computers included, parking-extortionate(40 pro day-go online-parking nearby for 15).We were 2 Brit women on tour in California and we found Best Western much better. Can't recommend.

The hotel was very convenient for touring SF. The Hop On - Hop Off bus terminus was just round the corner and 2 of the Cable Car lines were just a short stroll away.
Fishermans Wharf itself is a little tacky, but the Hyde St Maritime Museum is excellent and you just avoid the tacky bits.
The Hotel itself was fine - spacious room, good bathroom, excellent breakfast.

Hotel was in a great location to walk to Fisherman's Wharf. We arrived early and our room was still occupied but they told us to park and start our day. After walking for several hours, we returned to the hotel.

At check in there appeared to be blood on the counter. After we set our stuff on it, we noticed it and explained our disgust. The gentlemen checking us in feigned some concern and called housekeeping. We checked in and went up to our room, to find it with towels on the ground and dressers. I returned to the check in counter (still bloody) and requested a new room.

New room was clean at least. We then decided to go down to the pool area hoping to find a hot tub (what chain hotel doesn't have a hot tub). We were disappointed to find no hot tub...

In all, it was still a nice hotel for a good value. They should take care not to take this for granted as there are a lot of options in the area.

I had a wonderful stay at this Holiday Inn hotel and give it high marks.

PROS:
Every staff member I met could not have been more helpful. Check-in was perfect.

Room service breakfast (something I love) was above expectations and worth the extra money compared to walking around the corner to the sister property Holiday Inn Express.

You are close to many attractions but I stayed here for a deal with the King Tut exhibit and was "local" from Sacramento (on the train) and met a friend to go to the de Young. For out-of-towers there is quick access to municipal transit and you can walk to many attractions near Fisherman's Wharf.

A mini fridge and microwave in my room.

Good lighting.

Very clean bathroom and guest room.

Free Internet (as at all Holiday Inn and related properties).

There is large Walgreens store just a block away that has anything you need.

Safe location. Mixed residential and hotels and business.

It is San Francisco. Perhaps the most beautiful city in the world!

CONS:

Parking in this city is very costly. Don't blame the hotel for their actually discounted rate of $38 a night. Many hotels in this city cost $50 a night for parking.

You might get a tiny view of both bridges (Golden Gate and San Francisco - Oakland Bay Bridge) like I did. Or you might look at a wall. Or perhaps look out on the street. If a view is important to you here, ask the check-in staff what they have and I trust they will accommodate you if there are rooms. Otherwise, stay at a higher priced hotel just for the view, if you want that. (I usually do but did not need it here, but got it, a bit.)

Cold. Bring a jacket in August. Oh, not the hotel; San Francisco. :) You actually can open windows a bit in this hotel and the heating/ventilation systems worked well in case you want to crank up the heat in August after the fog rolls up the Bay.

BE AWARE:
There is is a Holiday Inn Express around the corner.

There are comments here about people checking in and being told they are staying at the "annex" or "moved to another building down the street" but I think there is much confusion between this Holiday Inn property and the Holiday Inn Express property on the other block.

When you make your reservation and check in, just make sure you get to the correct location and you will be fine I trust. From what I read the staff at this hotel try to help people that showed up at the wrong location. Maybe they share a parking garage? Some people, after traveling, and dealing with confusion, might be upset.

Call ahead or go online to make sure you know if you are actually staying at this Holiday Inn or the Holiday Inn Express close by.

Enjoy your time in San Francisco. Let me know if you have questions.
