We stayed here for 3 nights in November. Excellent value for money, great location, very clean, comfortable beds and quiet bedrooms. We were on quite a high floor with an lovely view. Lots of good places to sit in the lobby and work. Efficient wifi. A small but adequate gym, super heated open air pool. All in all we really liked this place and would highly recommend it.

The hotel is very convenient to many locations. It's one block from Whole Foods, three blocks from Trader Joe's and two blocks from Bevmo (a discount wine store). There is also a Starbucks next door. There is a Walgreen's and multiple restaurants one block east on Polk. It's also on the Muni 1 bus line that goes from the Ferry Building to Lincoln Park and the Muni 47 bus line that goes to Fisherman's Wharf. It's about half the price of Union Square hotels.
If you stay here, try to book an even numbered room facing East on a higher floor to minimize outside noise. We were in a corner room, Room 1000, which had an excellent view.
Note, the window shades are operated by a switch which is next to the thermostat. You also need your room card to operate the elevator (touch your card to the pad on the floor selection panel.

Room Tip: East View on High Floor

We are used to hotel bell service. This hotel, however, does not have the usual door man or bell man who will greet you as soon as you get off the car; help you; and carry the luggage for you. Instead a trolley is available on which you could load your luggages which you could bring up to your room after checking in. So you get to save on tip for bell service.

The hotel is located in Van Ness, a very safe area. The City Hall is but a mere 10-minute walk from the hotel. Restaurants abound in the area. A CVS is also two blocks from the hotel, if you wish to buy bottled water and other small items. Union Square and Market Sts. are 25 to 28 minutes away by foot from the hotel.

Our corner room was very small. But we had a magnificent city view. The toilet was also very tiny and cramped. But the room’s measurement is understandable in San Francisco where every square meter counts.

We checked in at around 11AM. We were pleasantly surprised that the woman behind the front desk allowed us early check-in. But we were not permitted to have our 5-day stay credited on our IHG account. Apparently, when reservation was made through booking.com, no IHG points can be earned at this hotel. Just the same, a day after we checked in, we still tried to speak with the duty manager and request for the IHG mileage. After all, we were staying in the hotel for 5 days. Unlike the female front desk person who courteously declined our request for IHG points, the male Indian-sounding duty manager was curtly and dismissively rude. As Asians, we found this attitude very racist and totally unacceptable in the hotel industry.

Except for the very disappointing treatment by the duty manager, whose attention, we hope, would be called by the management, I still strongly recommend this hotel.

Cosy room
Friendly reception. Happy to help.
Loved the location.
We had the street view and at the sun rise the opposite building gave us a full view of it.
Room service has specific timing.
No bottled water in room.

Over all a place to come again

This location felt like a four star property! We were assigned to the 26th floor which was the highest floor. I currently work with a luxury hotel chain and being here, it took me by surprised. I have been to other Holiday Inn's before and this property by far excels beyond the usual standards. The room itself was extremely spacious (considering the location) at around 450 sq ft. We loved the large desk/counter space,it helped us organize. Front Desk team was very friendly and gracious. Rooms were always cleaned and housekeeping definitely did a great job! Thank you for making our stay in San Francisco memorable.

Room Tip: I was on the 26th floor being on the odd numbers side, ask for even numbers, apparently those rooms have a better view!
