This is a really quirky hotel, so I had a difficult time rating it. There are many shortcomings, including having just one slow elevator for the entire building, no A/C, tiny rooms, paper thin doors and ceilings, terrible pillows, and lots of road noise. Also, some of the rooms did not have an en suite bath, but rather utilized a shared bath in the hallway, though my room had it's own.
However, they made up for those disadvantages with plenty of positives: excellent friendly and helpful front desk staff, free minimalist breakfast, lots of character, ear plugs, cleanliness, convenient ice machines, great location, early check-in when available, free in-room wi-fi, cabs always sitting across the street, and low price.
If you are attending an event at the Moscone Center, this hotel is so close and such a good value, it should be on your short list. If you are on your honeymoon, stay elsewhere,

I used to always stay at the Intercontinental on business, but have now switched to the Mosser. I like that it's cozy and friendly. The rooms are quite small but clean. It's equally convenient to Moscone. The staff is great. This hotel has character. I've rated it a 4 in the past, but on this recent visit, I decided to change my rating to a 5, because it is such an excellent value. I also had a chance to check out Annabelles, the bar/bistro on the ground floor, and it is very nice.

I stayed in The Mosser on my first trip to San Francisco. I felt that the location was perfect and easy accessible by public transportation. Shopping is all around and the area felt very safe to walk around. The hotel seems newly updated and although we had a room with a shared bathroom, we never saw any other guests using the facilities even though the hotel was fully booked. I definitely recommend the hotel and would stay again.

Stayed at The Mosser over Christmas Eve and Christmas Day 2013. This hotel is steps away from Union Square and everything else is accessible from transit which is right out the door on Market St. It's a smartly reno'd "historic" hotel so the rooms are small, but very comfortable. You have the option of booking a room with a washroom or you can choose just a room and use the shared facilities down the hall. Honestly the rooms are so affordable that paying extra for a room with a washroom isn't that big of deal. And while the rooms are small, every time I have been here, I am usually only in my room to sleep or catch up on a few emails before heading out. The room is efficiently laid out and there is more than enough space - corner sinks are kind of awkward though, but again, the price can't be beat. Parking was included in my package this time, but I remember previously that while not cheap, it's more affordable than most other places in downtown SF. You do need to call ahead 20-30 min before you need your vehicle as I believe it is offsite, but they do offer in and out privileges so it's a fair compromise. Front desk staff were very cheerful and helpful. Overall its a great place to stay as long as you know the rooms are small, but again you should be spending your time out and about in the city, not hanging in your room :)

Room Tip: Full Size bed w/washroom corner suites are bigger

I stay here each time I visit the City, which is every six months, and I stay at The Mosser. I enjoy the location and convenience to everything. The rooms are clean, and the staff are professional and friendly. They are very willing to be helpful, and accommodating.

An old building with modern rooms. The nature if the building means the rooms are a small but they make great use of space. Modern furniture & fittings, clean rooms and friendly staff. When we required extras or ordered our car the staff were very attentive.
Located a 10minute walk from pier 1 which leads onto a lovely walk upto pier 39 & fishermans wharf (about 60mins).
Breakfast is fairly basic; muffins, cookies & drinks (tea/coffee).
Would recommend to those in SF on business or not planning on spending much time in their room.

This hotel is located a block from Union Square and public transportation; you really can't beat that! Also, the valet parking for a car was only around $40 and that is a great price for the city. The hotel staff were great and so courteous. The free breakfast is just coffee and muffins, but you can't beat free. :-) The rooms were very small (we got a room with a private bathroom, NOT a shared bathroom), but it's what you would expect from a SF boutique hotel. Our room felt newly renovated and modern. Overall, no complaints!

Room Tip: My husband and I didn't really like the idea of sharing a bathroom with other guests on the floo...
