This mid-priced hotel is in a beautifully updated older building. It retains the original features (cool old elevator, wrought iron railings, old-fashioned staircases) but has been thoroughly modernized. It has rooms with shared bath (WC and shower rooms down the hall) and rooms with private bath. I opted for the latter and paid less than $200 per night (including tax) on a summer weekend.

The location is 1/2 block from the BART station (Powell) and is a straight shot across Market up to Chinatown, Nob Hill, and down the other side to North Beach, etc. Although the area borders the Tenderloin, it's in a much nicer area, just across the street from a huge modern Marriott. Very safe. 1/2 block to the nearest Starbucks with lots of shops and restaurants nearby. St. Patrick's Catholic Church is 1/4 mile away and worth a visit if you're into that kind of thing or want to attend mass.

My room on the 5th floor faced 4th Street, which is a bit noisy, and the street view is just of the Marriott across the street. The hotel thoughtfully provides disposable earplugs in the bathroom kit, but I didn't need them; it wasn't that bad. I never heard my neighbors. These old hotels have walls of "lathe and plaster" construction, so very solid. Small room (as is typical of old hotels like this) that was very clean and comfortable. Small but completely adequate and clean private bathroom with the usual bath amenities. Hot water takes a couple minutes to arrive to the shower in the morning, but once you know that, it's no problem. Flat screen TV, but no coffee maker or fridge.

The staff was extremely professional, friendly, and helpful. If you need to stash a bag with the bellman after you check out, no problem. Gotta love smiling helpful staff.

If you want a modern Marriott, stay there. If you want a place with character with modern amenities, great location, and friendly staff, stay here.

Room Tip: The street view isn't anything special. Rooms on the 4th Street side are a bit noisy.

I visited The Mosser on a business trip.
What I liked:
- Location was great, close to Powell BART station
- Also close to Convention Center

What I didn't like:
- Room was tiny, with a shared bathroom
- Very noisy, thin walls and windows
- Only one elevator. If it's being used, you will need to wait
- Room had no desk (too small, no space for one)
- Room had no dresser (too small, no space for one)
- No thermostat. Temperature is controlled by opening the window.

I cannot recommend this hotel. Even the ensuite bath rooms appeared small. There are dozens of other hotel options nearby. Rooms with shared bath are very small.

Stayed: July 2017

The rooms are very small, walls very thin so you can here if your neighbors are talking. Precious from the front desk was very nice. The location in general is very good it is close to the bus station.

Hotel fine, location fine, somewhat noisy hence why earplugs are provided. Front of house male staff not very helpful at all, nor are they happy, enthusiastic or knowledgeable, thankfully the lady was able to make up for their short-comings! Must be better places which is a pity as I was impressed by their ethos.

Great location - two locks from Moscone Centre and right in the middle of town.
Although the room was compact, it had everything I needed.
Staff were efficient and friendly. Room was very well cleaned.
I enjoyed my stay - Thanks

Room Tip: This is a city hotel. You can hear the noises of the city. It wasn't a problem for me. Hot water took a while to flow through,
