Having stayed at Kimptons before, we were looking forward to a weekend at the Sir Francis Drake. The property is in a great location right off of Union Square and the building is exceptional from an historical perspective. The architecture is fantastic.
Check-in was fine, but when we got to our room we found that it was very tiny and cramped, poorly laid out and had an extremely musty smell. After a few minutes, we decided that this would be a very unpleasant weekend and called the front desk. The staff member seemed quite put-off but our complaints, but eventually agreed to move us to another room. When we arrived, we found we were in essentially the same room, but several floors up, off the same cramped hallway and in a room that was equally cramped and musty-smelling.
We called the front desk once again and were told quite rudely that there were no other rooms. Period.
This could be a nice hotel. It has the infrastructure and location. But our experience has turned us off of Kimpton Hotels. The Sir Francis Drake is in serious need of an update and should have someone come in and re-train their staff.More
