Loved San Francisco and could be happier with staying at the Donatello. Great helpful staff, Clean rooms. Great price. Awesome concierge who got us Alcatraz tickets when nobody else could. Great location, close to all attractions, restaurants, waterfront and shopping. I wouldn't even look at another hotel when I book to return.... Straight back to the Donatello..

Was looking for a conveniently located, family friendly, nicely appointed, well-priced hotel. It took a lot of time but am glad we found the Donatello hotel. The hotel is a short block away from Union Square. Lots of places to eat. The rooms were very clean, nice & newly refurbished, nice sized (easily accommodated our family of 4), and very comfortable. (Work was still going on but the disturbance was hardly noticeable). My kids loved the TV built into the bathroom mirror (baths were never a problem, it was getting them out of there that was). And the staff.....you felt welcome the moment you get out of your car. Nothing was ever too much trouble.....and they remembered our names, too! It was like going home each time we got back from our day's adventures. We are not members and it was the first time we stayed there. It will definitely not be the last.... It was just perfect!

The staff are great and very helpful. Make sure you visit the Club on the top floor. Nice little gym, whrilpool and sauna. The view from the balcony is not fantastic but you do get an appreciation of the SF sky line.

Our room was adequate with more space than a normal room as there was four of us in it. The kitchen is small but has everything you need to cater for breakfast.

The bathroom is also quite small but and this is the best part, there is a TV built into the mirror. We want one of these at home, yeah right!

The staff recommended a couple of places to eat, we tried the Cafe Mason on Mason and had two excellent meals, one at Lunchtime and one at night.

You can tell this hotel has had a recent refurbish and we would recommend a stay here.

When you visit SF, the Donatello is a place away from it all. Balcony club house, wine Fridays, superb concierge. Leopoldine is a person I trust as she's in the know. And staff in general here are great with impeccable service standards. Their restaurant has a night cap and live music as well.

This is a time share hotel. They had a nice sized room with a comfortable queen-size pull out bed for my grandson. The problem is that if you face the front of the hotel you hear all the traffic and especially the trash pick up at 4:00 am. However, it is in a good location just blocks from Union Square.

This must be the place to stay in this price range in San Francisco. Service at the desk at check in was excellent. The rooms are a very good size for 4 people with two double beds and a pull out couch. The beds are very comfortable and the linens are high quality. I liked that bath robes were provided which made it easy when visiting the jacuzzi. There is a club floor on the 15th floor which has complimentary tea and coffee during the day as well as a relaxing lounge. I would say the quality of the hotel is similar to a larger Sheraton but the furniture is slightly higher quality. The room was very clean and there was no signs of wear and tear on the beds and furnishing in our room. I expect the hotel may have just had renovations done to a number of rooms. Our room had a view of some other buildings and was quiet as it was not facing Post or Mason St - this suited us fine. There are a number of great dining choices near by and easy access to public transportation and many attractions including China Town, Union Square, Market Street, Japantown as well as easy access to historic trolleys and cable cars. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: Book through the hotel website and commit to the 21 day advance to get a better rate.

We only stayed for one night but wish we could have stayed longer. The hotel has totally modernized the room to even include a tv screen on the bathroom mirror, although it's only via antenna and not cable-ready yet!! Everything in the room is so modern with the flat large TV screen in the studio room, luxiourious/comfy bedding on the bed (although the pillows were a little too fat for me), and the sofabed enabled us to watch tv with comfortable footstools for our feet. The curtain rod in the bathroom is rounded so that you can take a shower without having to fight the shower curtain from sticking to you. We have stayed at the Donatello in the past when we've gone to SF baseball games but this time I eventually went to their website and had to book the room under their "Web special" (we are "spur-of-the-moment" hoteliers). The price for the room was very reasonable in comparison to other hotels in the area! The hotel is in a very nice "Union Square" area and is one block from the best breakfast place in SF, Pine Restuarant. There are a lot of eating places within a few blocks. We also parked our car in a public car lot that was just a couple of blocks away since we did want to be able to get to the car alot easier than if we parked it at the Donatello; the parking fee was equivalent in price. We took bus line 45 to/fro the baseball park for only $2 each way.

Room Tip: Since the nightclub just down Mason Street can be abit noisy, request a room as far away as possible...
