After an over night flight we tried to check in at 8am...and we were allowed to! We were so happy to be able to go take a nap and shower and change to start exploring San Francisco. The front desk staff was nice, the hotel lobby is really fancy and the room, while a tad on the small side was nicely decorated and furnished and provided with enough room. There was a large closet as well where one could put their luggage/clothes. The products in the room was a nice touch (bath products, very comfortable bed, coffee/tea maker with coffee and tea). The location is very good and close to exploring different areas of San Francisco. Would recommend this hotel.

Thank you for commenting on your recent stay with us. I'm very happy to hear you had such a nice visit and we were able to accommodate your early check-in. I'm sure that was a very welcome occurrence after a long night of travel. I'm also pleased you found the hotel well-appointed and our location central. Thanks again for your kind words and we look forward to welcoming you again in the future.

The Mona Lisa is the world's most famous painting, not its greatest; this hotel is not a world-class hotel, it is merely very famous. You're paying for pretense, not luxury and it's poor value. They charge steeply for things which are free in almost every other hotel. For the same price, you could get dramatically more luxury in another place; what you're paying for is the ability to claim you stayed at the Fairmont, much like DeBeers makes you pay steeply for useless rocks that it has convinced the world are precious. That isn't to say it wasn't nice; it was extremely nice, but only a "look but don't touch" kind of way.

I'd stress that we wanted to spend a lot of money in SF and have a good time so the price itself isn't the issue, the issue is that we felt we got poor value for money. For over $700 per night we think a large bathroom, free wifi, curtains that actually close and maybe some complementary coffee or breakfast in the morning isn't too much to ask for. Basically the Fairmont seemed more concerned with how they could extract the maximum amount of cash from its guests than with how it could make them happy and comfortable. If you want to say you stayed at the most exclusive hotel in SF, take the Fairmont. If you want to be treated like a king and live in the lap of luxury, take your money to a good 4-star hotel instead, you'll get far more bang for your buck.

I would like to praise the staff by the way for being highly professional; our issue is with management.

I've visited Fairmont SF several times before but last time (approx 2012) very very average and inconsistent. Rooms small. You have to request a turn down service otherwise it's not done. Very unpleasant staff, especially in the lobby asking for a drink for instance. Overpriced for a small room but in a good location. Large impersonal lobby. There are better places to stay in SF.

At the end of our long journey travelling from San Diego including Las Vegas we spent our last 5 days at the Fairmont San Francisco. I recommended it as I had stayed there a few years previous. We were not disappointed. We arrived a few days early at a very busy time time but was accommodated with lovely ajoining rooms with our friends. The staff are polite and very helpful and the hotel decor takes your breath away. You are near to China Towm parks and a short ride on the famous cable car to pier 39. Highly recommended.

This was our first trip to San Francisco and trying to decide on a hotel in a city you don t know was difficult . Using trip advisor we narrowed it down to The Fairmont Hotel On Nob Hill and we were nt disappointed .
From the outside it's adorned with flags .A large impressive building wow s before u even walk inside . The Doormen are friendly and polite . Once inside the foyer is grand , oppulent but also charming. We got checked in immediately and were given a beautiful suite big enough for our family . The beds are large And very comfortable. The rooms were spotless and tastefully decorated .
After a busy day sightseeing and some tired sleeping kids my husband and I treated ourselves to room service . The food was beautifully presented and very tasty !!
Although not in the busy part of San Francisco the hotel is a short walk (downhill) to many restaurants and bars . The tram brings u back up hill which is much needed after a days sightseeing or taxis are reasonable and easy to get .
If I return to San Francisco which I hope to do I would not hesitate to book this great hotel again . Excellent .

Thanks for taking the time to comment on your recent stay with us. I'm thrilled to hear you selected our hotel based on TripAdvisor and that we didn't disappoint. You may or may not know, but The Fairmont is the location where the original charter for the United Nations was drafted. The flags flying above the hotel are of the nations that originally signed the charter. I'm pleased you enjoyed your time with us and found the rooms large and well-appointed. Thanks again for your kind words and we look forward to your next visit.

We have stayed before at this historic hotel that has recently been gorgeously redecorated. We enjoyed a beautiful tower room overlooking The Bay and Alcatraz. We were both comfortable and located perfectly for cable cars and Chinatown excursions. The first nite we hit the Tonga Room for their buffet and drinks--what can I say except we felt like we were back in the Polynesian 70s! We really appreciated the opportunity to make coffee in the room in the morning with a Keurig maker. I am not sure when guests at higher end hotels quit being thought of as "guests" and this option was taken away, but a great cup of coffee and newspaper immediately in the morning is a most pleasant way to begin a day. Thanks Fairmont! Hotel service from check in to conceirge was always good with the exception of getting a bellman and luggage cart on departure--after 20 minutes and two phone calls we schlepped the bags ourselves to get to the airport.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your recent stay with us. We welcome all guest feedback but are particularly pleased to hear from such a seasoned traveler as yourself. As you mentioned amenities such as in-room coffee makers are often an overlooked luxury, so I'm pleased to hear you appreciated it. I'm also happy to hear you enjoyed Tonga Room as it is one of a kind and a not to be missed San Francisco institution. Thanks again for your kind words and we look forward to welcoming you again to The Fairmont.

I've visited Fairmont SF several times before and have always been a fan of the classic Fairmont, grand feel of the hotel along with it's central location in the city. I was delightfully surprised, however, on my recent stay when I walked down my room hallway to see a fresh new color scheme that still felt quite familiar. Upon entering the room I realized I was viewing many new touches including a slightly bolder and modern desk and dresser, classy yet current lamps and a crisp new light gray color scheme.
I am very impressed with the upgrades to this historic property and look forward to my next visit.

Thank you for your extremely kind words about the hotel and for being such a loyal Fairmont guest! As you mentioned we have completed a complete guestroom renovation and the new modern room decor is a perfect match for the Old World luxury the property is known for. Thanks again and we look forward to welcoming you on your next visit to the City.

Lucas Schumacher
