We live about 80 miles from San Francisco, and we go into the city for two- or three-day weekends about three times a year. Hotels in areas like Union Square and Fishherman's Wharf always charge for parking. THIS ONE DOES NOT! Making a reservation on line was simple. The room for one night was $129.00 tax included, and parking was free. Five-minute walk to Pier 39, ten-minute walk to Gharadelli Square--in other words, superb location.

There is nothing fancy here--but the room was spacious and clean. I actually wondered about even reviewing this place--didn't want the word to get out that this is undoubtedly the best value in San Francisco, but it is and is worth a visit. View was non-existent (at least from our room) but the room was off the main street so it was quiet--even on a Saturday night.

Don't expect the Ritz here, but this is a wonderful bargain. We were warned on previous Trip
Advisor Reviews that the hotel was not spotless and it was noisy. Maybe we were lucky, but we will return.

Room Tip: Try to get a room that does not face the street. Probably quieter.

We just stayed at the Wharf Inn for 3 nights. To put this review in perspective, my wife and I travel a lot. We understand that there are many differences in places to stay. However, one thing that should never be sacrificed in a room is cleanliness. Here is what we found at the Wharf Inn.

1) View room was not a "view room" due to the windows being filthy, both inside and out.
2) Carpets along the walls were so dusty, it actually looked to be a different color carpet.
3) Bathroom vents & heater vents were absolutely filthy.
4) Room chair had dark stain & the sofa had a rip in it.

The heater also did to work properly. It was either full on or off. The fan in the heater also rattled.

I can't say anything about the other rooms. I can only review the room that we stayed in. We highly suggested staying away from room 322.

We normally do not take the time to complain to the management when we find a room this bad. We simply take our business elsewhere.

We got 2 nights in this nice motel. It was pretty packed, maybe because of the free parking slots directly at the pier. It's a nice but old motel, dont expect new furniture. Everything s clean and in a good shape, but there was a little smell from the old carpet - not disgusting but awkward.
If you want a good price/value ratio, then go for it. You can easily walk to the pier and the attractions. Some restaurants and a 7eleven are next to the motel. The wifi is pretty good and also free of charge. Maybe you should use earplugs, but this depends on your sleeping quality.
Overall, this was a good place for sightseeing in SFO.

Room Tip: Dont chose a room facing the street.

This hotel was completely adequate. Nothing fancy, but perfectly adequate for the price paid. Slightly run down looking from the outside, but rooms were clean with a comfy bed. Super close to the water, a 7eleven across the street, lots of (expensive, touristy) restaurants nearby. Easy walking distance to north beach and china town.

The only thing that rubbed me the wrong way was that the bathroom didn't have towel racks (only one small one for a hand towel) so we tossed our used bath towels on the floor and hoped for new ones after service, and one day the housekeeping staff picked them up off the floor and hung them on this rail over top the toilet and expected us to use them again. Ew. (terrible location for a towel to hang! You can't sit on the toilet with a towel there!)

My first impression was not bad for the money the rooms are clean and the bathrooms are too. Don't look under the beds or you'll find remnants from past guests. Which is typical of most hotels without the platform beds.

While the rooms are clean, they are not sound proof, you can hear people from the street and among other noises from neighboring hotel rooms. The Mason street side is bad so go fir the senic view of the building next door to minimize the street noise. So if you can sleep through that you're golden. Just annoying when you're trying to relax. We were actually moved to a different room since just before I was going to hop into bed I saw a bug cross my pillow. It ended up being a bed bug! -It appeared to be alone, since the Inn has taken measures to protect their guest from the nasty things. Honestly the inn was great about the situation and offered to find us a new hotel or change rooms -since it was the middle of the night and we had two sleeping babies we opted for a room transfer. They immeadiately transferred us to a bed bug free room. We checked everything and the person working also helped. They have had issues before but a lot of the hotels in the area have- another reason we opted for another room at the hotel.

Pros:
Free Internet
Close to the action
They have conditioner
We had free parking but it now has changed to $15 a day which is reasonable
Great staff
Large rooms

Cons:
No cribs
No extra security latch on doors
Can be noisy at times.

All in all I'd recommend this to college students or couples on a budget but not for families with kids.

Stayed here for 4 nights mid week. The hotel it's self is close to most things and a 5 min walk to the wharfs.

The room we had was on the 3rd level facing mason street. The rooms are not sound proofed so we could hear all the delivery trucks, street sweepers and homeless people all through the night.

Bathroom is very out dated and extremely noisy.

Beds were comfy and hotel staff were pleasant. It was an added bonus the free wifi and parking.

We stayed at the Wharf Inn for 3 nights. It is in a great location, walking distance to Fisherman's Wharf and other piers (including the pier the Alcatraz tours run from) and even downtown San Fran.

The room was spacious and perfect for what we wanted however the carpet had just been cleaned and hadn't dried properly making the entire stay feel like a sauna. The noise from the street was also quite loud and the beds were a little too soft for our preferences. But we didn't complain to be moved, and it didn't affect our overall time in San Fran. I probably wouldn't stay again, maybe try somewhere else. But it was a good price and not every stay is the same.

Room Tip: Maybe ask to not have a room on the main road
