“Cool hotel, pleasant stay”
Reviewed 4 April 2011

This is a pleasant and fun hotel, reasonably priced. Location is central, right next to San Fran's famous chinatown. Short walk to city centre. Surprised to find that they also take in pets and offer day care services while you go out to explore the city. There is even a "pet ambassador" on duty - a cute little dog by the name of Romeo, follows the bell boy everywhere. Happy to find bottles of Aveda in the bathroom complimentary for our use. Very clean Overall great service and staff. Overall excellent stay.

This is a great place to stay for a weekend in the city. The location was very convenient - lots of things within walking distance. The staff was friendly and helpful with suggestions. Only suggestion is to bring earplugs since the neighborhood can be noisy at night - small price to pay for the location.

I spent three nights at this hotel in early March. This is not the typical four star Kimpton property I have become used to in other cities. This is definitely a three star hotel. The hotel retains some of the nicer options that four star Kimpton properties have such as free wine happy hour every day from 5 to 6pm and free coffee and tea every morning. The location is perfect and most attractions can be explored by foot from the hotel. Things I did not like included a small room and an even smaller bathroom. Two people cannot be in the bathroom at the same time and the door has to be closed in order to use the toilet. The building has a "funky" smell that comes along with old buildings. I did not have a problem with the cleaning service but I was annoyed that the maid would refold the used towels and move them so we would not know which towel was mine and which one was my husband's. The beds are comfortable. The rooms do have ugly air conditioner units. The view from the room was an alley so I did not waste too much time admiring it. Overall, this is a decent hotel in a great neighborhood.

Rooms are the smalles I have seen in the US (even in Europe they'd be small). Sink is outside the room, between closet and tv, not inside bathroom. Matrasses are quite old and not comfortable. We were in one of the highest floors and even there we were able to hear lots of noise from the street all night long because windows are not acoustically sealed. We also had the bad luck of being right in font of the elevator door, and could hear people talking in the hallway. Windows had no curtains, only blinds, which did not close properly, so lots of light through all night and of course at first hour in the morning. Bathroom was claustrofobic, and even little details, where they could improve, like toilet paper, were not taken care of: paper was of the lowest quality and so thin! Closet was ridiculosly small, forget about storing anything. Dogs everywhere and odd smells all over the place. Front desk staff kind of helpful but not really, like they don't care at all about the customers but they say they do. We asked for a late ckech out on a Sunday afternoon, and you know what they said? "You can stay one more hour free of charge. Otherwise we'll charge half the room". The difference between checking out at noon or at one is none. Colour schemes and lighting were erratic and out of date. Furniture and decoration is old and looks cheap and sometimes in bad taste. I found this hotel to be totally ridiculous.

I planned to stay there an entire week and just couldn't....
I must say the staff was super friendly... they made me lot of favors, always had a smile on their face...
I got a room in front of the Ice Room - too bad, I woke up in the middle of the nigth because the machine was noisy noisy...
I arrived on Sat, bad since I wanted to sleep and there was music all around the bars outside... (add the police car sound)
No towels until day #2....
I found pieces of chips in the floor, I asked my room to be vaccum..and they did it...
Since day # 1 I noticed the bathroom was not clean a all (hair in the tub), so I asked the staff to deeply clean it... they did it, but this time the hair got stuck in the tub hole... so it wasn't clean at all :(
You can hear the people walking in the halls... the floor sounds a lot when you walk...
Ayayai! I wish I can recommend this hotel... but this is a BIG NO for those who like clean, well-maintained hotels...

When things are dirty you never know!

My girlfriend and I stayed at Triton, and as soon as we got out of the lobby, we noticed the hallways on all of the floors had a musty smell. The carpets looked dingy and the building seemed very old and outdated. When we got to our room, the smell was worse. It smelled like someone left spoiled milk sit out for several days. We immediately asked to switch rooms and were given another room. The new room was better, but still had a very musty smell. It was nothing like the other Kimpton hotels we previously stayed at. The floors were creaky throughout and the carpet dingy and worn. We were on the fourth floor and the noise in the alley at night was very loud; this coming from a New York resident that lives in a very noisy area of the city. We were extremely disappointed and felt uncomfortable.

The staff was nice and tried to accommodate, but there wasn't much they could do to mask the asthetics of the hotel. Great concept for a boutique hotel in a great area of SF, but the execution was really bad. It was bad enough for us to leave early and move to another small hotel around the corner, that was much, much nicer, and less expensive.

If you are looking for 5 star - look elsewhere. This is a midrange hotel. Bed was comfortable, bathroom was good, decor is OK and funky in places, gym is OK, but price, location and service were great! Friendly helpful staff and prime city location on the edge of China Town made for a perfect stay. Great Sushi at Mikaju just across the road.
