“Very nice hotel”
Reviewed 5 May 2014

I found this hotel to be a very good value for the price. On the plus side - the rooms were clean and comfortable, the staff was friendly and helpful, the location was convenient to many attractions and public transportation, and the evening wine reception was really pleasant. On the negative - the view was not great (but who stays in the room) and the last block of the walk from BART was a killer with a heavy suitcase.

Dear Recent Guest:

Thank you for your review. The Executive Hotel Vintage Court staff is always here to make your visit to San Francisco a joy and your accommodations should be enjoyable! We are located on block up on Nob Hill and it’s a slight incline, but what a great way to stay in shape! As noted our hotel rubs shoulders with many local neighborhoods where the locals also live to enjoy the best of the city without the Union Square business of shops.

Our hotel team strives to make your stay an excellent experience and from your review we succeeded to make your time with us memorable! Thanks again!

Lastly, if ever in the area again please be sure to check out our HOT rate packages on our website!

Best regards,

Bill Engelhardt

We stayed here for 4 nights. The reception area looks quite nice but when entering the floor and our room we directly recognized a strange sweet smell. In general, the whole hotel and the interior is really old and needs to be refurbished. The location of the hotel is great and the staff generally friendly. When continuing our travel we noticed that our whole luggage still got the smell of this hotel.

Dear Recent Guest:

Thank you for your most recent comments on your stay and our apology if you found any offensive odors form the guest room or floor.

Our hotel team takes great pride in servicing the guest rooms and public area. In addition the hotel has installed a simple no offensive scent program that is odor free but absorbs any musty smells from the fog of the city and steam showers of the guest rooms. If the room was unbearable, the staff of our hotel is available 24 hours a day, and our team could have easily relocated your room to a more preferable hotel room.

In relation, to the age of our hotel we are a vintage building, built in 1913, in the “Edwardian era” of construction and style. The hotel rooms, building, trim are original, but with a clean updates and current modern furnishings. If this was not your fancy, then maybe some of the more current chain hotels would be a better fit. I would note however most hotels in the Union Square district, chain or independent, are similar to our hotel in layouts, furnishings and accommodations.

Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have further questions at 415-544-6201 or email me at gmvc@executivehotels.net. Again, thank you for your comments.

Sincerely,

Bill Engelhardt

This hotel is well placed for Union Square, China Town and the cable car. It is a little faded in places but the staff were very friendly and helpful. The reception area was welcoming (especially the roaring fire on a wet day). The wine tasting each evening was a great added bonus.Views from the rooms were bad (enclosed roof tops and other rooms) but the rooms were clean and comfortable. It lacked any outside areas but this is to be expected from a city hotel.

Room Tip: choose a high floor.

We stayed at this hotel one time before. It has a great central location. The bed was very comfortable, but the room could be updated. When we walked in, I noticed an "odd" smell, but once we realized we were not going to be spending much time in the room, we decided that we could live with it. Housekeeping was great.

Breakfast was included in our room charge. This turned out to be very disappointing. The main problem was the lack of items being restocked at the buffet. We would ask the attendant to bring another carafe of coffee, and without checking other supplies he would go off the the kitchen to bring the item requested. While gone, we often found there was no sugar, or cutlery, or bagels. The toaster did not work well, so nothing really was toasted just warmed. Only plastic cutlery, plates, cups and paper coffee cups were used. I found this surprising in a city like SF which prides itself on environment conscience. None of this was recycled, just thrown away. We booked for 9 nights, and after 3 breakfasts, decided to save ourself some grief and eat elsewhere.

Dear Recent Guest: Thank you for your recent review of your stay and appreciate your note on our great location as well as room comfort. I also appreciate the feedback on our breakfast service and apologize that you found the breakfast service not to your liking.

The breakfast service, to note for readers, is a light self serve breakfast with toast, bagels, waffles, fruit, cereals, coffee, tea and juices. However, if items were not of your liking all one had to do is ask for service re-stock or assistance in service. I am again sorry it was not conveyed and I will review with our staff to be proactive. Also just to note; all cutleries, plates and cups are made from compostable material of corn starch and recycled paper materials. This also follows the disposable laws of the City of San Francisco from our food distributer too. In California, our choices are compost disposable or dishwasher service and the decision was be water conscious.

Upon review of your account, I am happy to refund any paid breakfast costs as you are welcome to contact me directly at your earliest convenience.

Sincerely,

Bill Engelhardt

This hotel is in a really good central location. The room was clean, the bed comfortable, and the staff welcoming. We were a couple of flights up and found the stairs easier to use than the lift, which is small and slow. We didn't have breakfast, preferring to eat locally (there are several places close by which serve excellent breakfast). The early evening complimentary wine served in the lobby is one of the hallmarks of this hotel, and certainly provides a useful plus in the stay, if only to chat to other guests. In summary, a very good stay for the price!

Room Tip: Despite the lift, it may be best to stay several floors up the hotel, if only to provide a 'buff...

Good location. I flew to SFIA and took the BART to downtown Powell St station. The hotel is about 5 blocks away, and the price is right. Friendly staff. The hotel is older, reminded me of European style, but well-maintained. Only one elevator it looked like. The bed and shower (great water pressure) were excellent. The breakfast was like Holiday Inn Express- nothing fancy.
