This is a lovely hotel just down the street from Union Square. The service is top notch and the staff are super. The location is perfectly safe and there is everything that you would want steps from your door. Some of the best restaurants are in this area.

Hotel room was clean and decorated fun as all Kimptons are! It is just a bit old and a little worn. We were NOT crazy about the location. Very loud and not many good food options within walking distance. Its very hard to get a cab in the area.
If we returned to San Fransisco we would not stay in this area again.

Dear Rolltide7,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I believe all information is good information for future guests. So, thank you for your honesty.

I am sorry to hear you felt our hotel was old and worn. We just renovated all of the hallways and rooms a few months ago. The building was constructed in 1910 and it definitely has a historic feeling to it.

It sounds like we may not have done a good job of explaining all of the great restaurants within walking distance from the hotel. We have a list at the front desk that we are always happy to share with people.

We understand that we may not be the perfect hotel for everyone. I am sorry we weren’t the perfect hotel for you, because we want to make sure everyone leaves here completely satisfied.

Best,
Jason Stone

My girlfriend and I stayed here for a night after a short trip to Napa. We arrived around 3pm with no dinner reservations or ideas of what to do. The staff suggested two restaurants and several sight seeing options. We ended up going with their recommendation of Fino restuarant for dinner and they called and got us a last minute reservation for 6:30pm. Well after taking longer than anticipated seeing the sights we called the hotel to see if we could push back our dinner reservation until 7:30. I was not expecting it to happen but the hotel staff made it happen. After an amazing dinner our overall experience was phenomenal. The hotel offers complimentary wine and drinks from 5-6pm everyday, I also saw a massage therapist giving chair massages along with a wii set up for kids. The hotel room was very nice also. I highly recommend this hotel.

Great stay at the Monaco!

I got an upgraded room which was lovely. Nice sized and very clean with the trendier Monaco decor.

Resturant was good, breakfast menu a little limited.

Great public spaces to meet traveling companions as well.

Can not go wrong with a Monaco Hotel

Dear jaronning,

We love the Monaco Hotels, too. Did you know that the Monaco in San Francisco was the original Monaco opened in 1995? We are the only Monaco to have the “Tree of Life,” which is a beautiful metal sculpture in our lobby and it tells the story of our founder, Bill Kimpton. If you missed it, you will have to come back for another stay.

Best,
Jason Stone

I like most all Kimpton Hotels but this one stands out. Great rooms, very helpful staff, still quirky but super comfortable. We stayed on the second floor which did involve a bit of noise from the street but we got to walk up and down the grand staircase into the lobby whenever we came and went from the room. Pretty cool.

Room Tip: Higher up for less noise but all were OK
